2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

You guys that are on leak, and waiting for OTA should NOT do it yet if you would like to ROOT. let the DEVS see it first, so maybe they can help you ROOT!!
 
Did I correctly see that we are not getting the speech-to-text feature? I was really looking forward to that, and for some reason I was thinking it would be in 2.1... is it not? Thanks in advance.
 
Anyone know the setting in Handcent that shows the name of the person sending the text and not the number? It changed to that after OTA update. I thought I remember reading in the forums there was a way.
 
what i dont understand when the update for the moto droid came out someone went into the sdcard when they got the notification and actually copied the update and put up on a website why cannt that be done with the eris ? so the update can be forced to the other phone so we don thave to wait
 
anyone who just updated maps notice a new "navigation" app on their phone. It's a blue arrow, I don't recall seeing this before today.

I did the update, and I can't find the Navigation app. I know the update worked because I now have bicycle directions available.

Edit: I uninstalled/reinstalled the update, and it is now available.

Has the ota actually started? I'm not gonna update till root is achieved (figures crossed)..........

Wouldnt this be a feature of google maps.apk (whatever it is called) or does the OS build control what programs have pinch zoom? I would think that the OS has that option available in coding, and then each app chooses to access it.

Does any other phone have pinch zoom in google maps?

Is it part of the new update for maps that just came out today?
 
pinch zoom is really only 1 of 3 things i want this phone to do that it already doesnt. 2.1 will address another of my concerns. rooting will do the other.

Been watching this thread because my GF owns a Eris and is excited to get the 2.1 with navigation etc. I have a Moto Droid and when that update was released everyone on the forum was instructed to NOT install the update when prompted but to pull the update.zip off the SD card and post it to the forums first. I guess the update destroys the update.zip when you run it.
