2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

If someone posts the log, and we download/install the file, what will happen when we receive the OTA? Re-install over the already-installed 2.1?

if you manually install the ota when its posted then you shouldnt be prompted for update hence you will already have the software being released, just earlier in the line

As I was reviewing.......someone is feeling exceptionally "Thanksy" this evening....

Not that there's anything wrong with that.... :)

I'm glad I am not the only one who noticed that! How long do you think it took to go through and click the "thanks" on practicly every single post?

I just hope that this thread did not cause the death of any kittens. Oh and it is 2157 hours in New Mexico and I still don't have the OTA.

1) When the update will be put online so we can download it ourself

Properly in a few days...

I think it would be reasonable to expect Verizon to wait until nearly everyone has been given the option to do the automatic OTA update. Either way, they will get calls about it, but this way most of the ones they get can be answered with, "You'll get it when you get it." and not lengthy discussions about how to do it manually.

Also, I hope the pinch-to-zoom rumor about Google Maps isn't true, or that it is included as an option if someone somehow thinks that is better than the zoom buttons that can be operated while holding the phone with one hand.

There is no such thing as too many customization options, but if something isn't broken, don't take my zoom buttons away!

Matt

Probably wore out his F5 button......:D

Back to the topic.....as I posted earlier, I received the update last night at 11:00. I have a large group of friends and family that also have the Eris and they have not gotten the notice for the update yet. Seems to be no obvious pattern to the update process. Patience, patience, patience, it will happen to you eventually :)

Well after following this all day, im going to bed, and hopefully in the morning the OTA Fairy will have brought me My update. Maybe I should put my eris under my pillow so she can replace my baby 1.5 OS with a brand new grown up 2.1 OS! NITE ALL! DONT FORGET TO SHARE IF YOU GET YOUR UPDATE FIRST! HEHE

On my Incredible, since the latest Google Maps update, i can use either -i can use the zoom buttons, which are still present on the screen just as before, or i can pinch-to-zoom. i know this isn't exactly a guarantee for what the Eris 2.1 will do, but i think there's a good chance that it will function similarly.

I know y'all like actual proof, but you're gonna have to take my word on this one... This is a convo between myself and a professional LPGA golfer whom used to stay with my family during the Wendy's Championship for Children several years ago. Basically, I'm saying I trust her, and she didn't have the leak, she was on 1.5...
anyway, she got the update tonight! So lucky, but never fear, it's on it's way to everyone

EDIT:
-For those of you that don't read the convo, the update WIPES YOUR PHONE CLEAN so make sure you backup everything you want to carry over, especially contacts. Backing up your contacts is very easy... see http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/41385-how-backup-your-htc-eris.html

Hopefully it dont turn out as bad as the BB tours OTA that just rolled out, maybe the reasoning behind the small amounts of releases over two weeks..

Multitouch was already present in the Eris 2.1 leak v.2 and v3. Why wouldn't it be included in the official ota?

The question is whether it will be present in Google Maps, not the OS itself. In 2.1 v3 it currently is not available while using that specific App.

Seeing as how this will probably be the last official update the Eris will ever get, why wouldn't you want to get root before 2.1 came? Then you'd be in good shape to get 2.2 in a month, along with under/over clocking and other goodness.

Just curious...since the Eris is approaching End Of Life.

Agreed, that update took forever. Bring on the update to the leak. VZW better not screw up enthusiasts over. Just because we're all about jumping the gun with any file that works doesn't mean that we should be last to get the update. Come on VZW! Give us the update already!

So since 2.1 is out now, does this mean i can warranty my phone now? even if i havnt got the update yet? its the same ver number and everything as v3 leak right?

Awake since 5AM and patiently awaiting my update. On v3 and would like to wait for root, but not sure I can hold out too long.
