2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

Someone probably has already tried this but...when my fiance's env3 was acting all funky we took it into a verizon store and they flashed her firmware which was rather out dated (wouldn't stay powered on long enough for me to attempt any OTAS) that fixed her problem. I'm curious as to if anyone has actually gone to a verizon wireless store and asked to flash their eris to the newest firmware (not called verizon, not talked on facebook support or what have you but physically gone to a store)? I know most of the people that work in a verizon store are typically clueless (atleast with my experience) but thought this might be worth the shot.

I think it's probably too soon for that. It's only be "rolling out" for a day. But eventually, yes you probably could if for some reason you never got the OTA. From what I've seen from the VZW twitter page, OTA is the only option right now.

I went into my local verizon shop the day of release and the tech had no idea what I was talking about, so going to your local shop isn't necessarily going to work

I am in Maryland and no update. I have a version of a leaked 2.1, no idea which one. It performs like poop, except for navigation. That works like a charm

I'm going to go ahead and post this here since it seems to be the most watched thread right now...

What are a few good Android/Eris related users to follow on twitter? I havent really used Twitter much but since my new Eris has it built in I figured what the heck.

OfTheDamned and Caddyman are two of the top contributors here and they both use Twitter. Whether they want you following them or not is up to them....you stalker! :D

Is it possible to get a Twitter restraining order?

By the way, I don't see a lot of people waking up and saying "got my update", perhaps the rollout is in smaller amounts than originally thought. ( Im not just referring to this forum either.)

Already following OfTheDamned, I'm assuming he doesn't mind considering he has his twitter in his sig telling everyone to follow him  But I was really referring more to ones like VZWSupport only more android related. ;)

I know you're kidding, but yes you can get a 'twitter restraining order' but only in so much as you can get a regular restraining order that includes electronic communication.

It'll happen, I think I got all my OTAs on my Eris on the third or fourth day, so no worries.

I work for verizon and I can tell you coming into flash it will not do anything since we don't get any software for any of the droids. Verizon didnt even give us the update.zip for the motorola droid. As far as they are concerned all PDA's except blackberry are either done OTA or by the customer on their own computer. If the techs cant update a Touch Pro 2 to windows 6.5 what makes you think they would give the techs 2.1 for the eris. I'm still waiting for the 2.1 update myself so just be patience and it will come. Like everyone said we've waited this long whats a couple more days.

its like your 21st birthday...you've waited 20.99 years, but those last few days are unbearably agonizingly long

Hello all, first time poster, long time reader. I am on leak v3 and was wondering... I have read that you would get the ota unless you had something like ota turned off. How do you find out if that is turned off on my Eris? Thanks for all the help and facts you guys have given. Sorry stalk for so long, never had anything to contribute. Thanks caddyman you have been awesome.

Not sure if this is any indication for when the PCD site will have the MR3 update... BUT, the recent OTA for the Incredible, which is comparable to the MR2 for the Eris in that it was a minor update, isn't posted yet...

I am just surprised that it hasn't been posted for us to download by SOMEONE who has gotten - makes me think they are doing it in REALLY small numbers but I have faith in this forum that we will see it as soon as it's available for download....hell Caddyman broke the v3 (which I am running and love)

I'm pretty sure you can only do that with your phone rooted
I hope so, I am not rooted, just leaked. Also every one has been trying to figure out some sort of pattern, why would it not be by phone number or device number? Or imei number? That would make sense to me... just a thought.

I thought OfTheDamned is a woman? Giggidy, giggidy

It shouldn't be surprising. There was no real organized way to share the instructions for how to log the update URL. The initial set of instructions was first a link over the forums on XDA. Then it was the copy / paste version. At that point, many still had some questions about how it worked.

A sticky should be created:

What to do BEFORE you get the official 2.1 OTA. Include the back-up programs and services you should look into, links to threads about what apps should be available / what to try. While a lot of this might seem like common knowledge, as demonstrated by the last three days it isn't.

Time permitting today, should I get the update, I will attempt the log the URL. Hopefully it comes while I'm at work and I have time to do the logging.
