2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

Just use the manual way to update your phone. Took ten minutes and was super easy. Theres instructions on another board. Everything stayed the same except the home screen had to put icons back. Programs, Contacts all stayed the same.

The only real thing to watch out for is if you have contacts that are just "phone contacts", and are not in the gmal list. Then they will not be sync'd.

^^ Exactly.. most of my contacts are just phone numbers that have nothing to do with gmail or gtalk contacts.

been watching this forum for a while and never posted, but I just wanted to share that I just got my OTA alert as well! judging by the other 5 people that have gotten theirs in the last hour, I'd say it's starting to look like the wait may soon be over for everyone that held out.

Hey everyone, i've been following this site for a while and I know this android 2.1 update is eating you all alive, so hopefully I can help. I know how it feels, when I upgraded to the droid eris in November, I lost turn by turn navigation and tethering and was told that I would have it back by the beginning of February (lies). I really missed the gps, but I didnt want to risk voiding my warranty or insurance by manually installing 2.1.

Anyway, some guy said that as soon as he installed an app supporting android 2.1, the OTA came. So I installed Pandora, and lo and damn behold, I am now installing the update. wtf? Try it and see if it works for you.

I'm not too concerned. So far it sounds like all the differences between v3 and the ota change log on the verizon page listed aren't there.

3D gallery... Nope. Voice to text... Nope. Reports of some of the same bugs. I got a modded htc keyboard that has the mic button and found a link on the forums to a working 3D gallery, so I'm set if I don't get the ota

A few hours ago, I did the *#*#checkin#*#* on my fiance's phone and it found the update. Installed without a problem.

We usually get everything last but I getting right now. I'm running 1.5 so nothing exiting to add but I just wanted to provide input to those trying to figure out the pattern. I bought my phone last month from Verizon online.
