Root [2.1 ROM] Simply Stunning 1.0.3 & 2.0.0 BETA!!

Hey all, I've loaded ChevyNo1's latest and greatest, and so far, it seems like a winner. It's the most stable 2.1 ROM I've used, and it runs nice and cool. The base is Greek35T's v1.0 ROM.

In terms of the kernel, it's still 10 slot w/ 1.25GHz max, but now there's a 550 slot, which it defaults to (should fix some problems with people who were boot looping using his kernel)

He does not include the MT browser, but has an update.zip that installs it for you. The theme is AdamZ's smoked glass, though modified by Chevy, and it looks pretty good IMO. Here are some screencaps:

The 2.0.0 Beta is out, and it is based on the leaked ERE25 sbf file! This was the 'official' Droid 2.1 update, but got pulled since it contained vulnerabilities. The new ROM contains the official MT browser & gallery, as well as working auto brightness and keyboard backlight!

So far so good! The theme is same as v1.0.3
 
I love what it has... Just don't like the theme really... I'm more of a straight stock guy. Any way to have that?
 
@Fabulous...Thanks for posting. I'll try this one out for sure. Have you tried SGv5.0.1? Do you think this is more stable than SG45.0.1? I have been on that since yesterday but have been having freeze issues when returning to the default page from an app, the app menu, or the notification windowshade. It either auto reboots or I have to remove the battery. It's getting old quick, despite how slick the ROM is. But this issue is only with Launcher2.1.1 or 2.0.1 and not home. Naturally, the UI with launcher is the one I like, but I'm getting sick of it freezing/rebooting. So I'm all about stability.
 
With Pete's 1.1 that ports nearly everything you'd need from 2.1 (incl MT browser), what does this have to offer that's better? I think the 3D drawer is cool, but it seems every other 2.1 ROM can get it running smoothly. And, aside from the blue tone, it looks quite similar to 1.1 :confused:
 
Thanks Fab. I'll try this out. Though Pete's V0.5 is pretty good, the battery life isn't that great. What is this ROM benchmarking at 1ghz or 1.25ghz?

Yeah, it is very similar to Pete's BB, but it is based on 2.1 instead of 2.0.1. I'm not quite sure what exact benefits that has, since they share the same apps, but for some reason, I just think it's a bit more snappy. Could have to do with some optimizations.

Benchmarks around 8.5Mflops at 1GHz and 10.5@1.25
 
installing now. Does this have a kernal built in to set the overlock without having to install a different kernal?
 
Whoa. This ROM is great so far. Super fast! and it has smoked glass which i always liked!
 
Awww, I was going to dl 1.0.3 but saw Chevy's update with the 2.0.0. I guess I'll hold off until 2.0.0 is confirmed to be stable. I'm glad he fixed the in-call mute issue because I really need that feature.

I guess I'll be checking Chevy's section every hour now. haha.
 
@ Fab...Was thinking about moving to 2.0.0 beta from BB 2.1 (0.5), but are you still getting the FC's on the Market? That doesn't sound like fun....Keep us updated!
 
Thanks for the heads up Fab. This ROM is next on my list. The main selling point -your observation of running cooler.
 
I agree on the in-call mute, I was one step away from downloading it...until I saw that...but if it's fixed in 2.0.0, I will definitely give it a try, will have to try and download it today!
 
Boo-urns! Just tried to flash this rom and it wouldnt even fully reboot. Sux customer it looks great and I'm all about stability. Gonna try again today after work.
tried flashing via nandroid restore and I'm wondering if the file structure got jacked somehow.

I wipe before going to another ROM right? Then just follow his instructions that he has?

There is a fix for that. Worked well for me.

So far this rom is great. I really thought I was gonna stick with BB 2.1 v.5 but this was too tempting. I am hoping to get a little better battery life with this than BB

Always wipe when going to a new ROM (I even do it between versions of the same ROM).
 
yet another ROM to try out. I am going to be a busy beaver this weekend.
