When I have done that I'm ready to have a try..

It's done in the flashrec app. Just tap the button that says something about saving/creating a backup. The app will then create a file called recovery-backup.img in the root of the sdcard.

Pressing it once again I just get three options reboot... applsy sdcard: update. sip and wipe data/factory reset... and at the bottom of the screen: E: can't open /cache/recovery/command.... Anybody knows why?

You haven't succeeded in the flashing of the recovery image. The recovery image you're seeing is the default HTC one. You need to follow the intstructions on the unlockr link I added to the guide.

I'll try this tut when I get home in a few hours. Thanks!
HTC still doesn't know what to do with it. They are escalating my/the problem..

Have now sucessfulle done all the steps that nikobe wrote. And the installation went well (two times), but now the handset freezes on the Hero screen and won't boot.....

help, please...

Ok, i've already got the old ROM. But can't install it, it says "The ROM Update Utility cannot connect to your Android phone."

I'm doing this at the black Hero thing. What could be the problem?... :-(

I had the same thing.. But I am now running the 2.1 installation with command logging, to check if it is failing somewhere when installing.

And.. still nothing from HTC..

Edit: Nope, a no-go for me. But..: I saw that the last thing it did was writing radio image..

Sorry if the guide didn't work out for some of you. I haven't forgotten any steps, I wrote them all down during the procedure.

Did the updates install without the exclamation mark, but then booting failed? If thats the case then I have no clue how to fix it. But I remember that the first boot after the 2.1 update was very slow, like 3-5 minutes or something. Not all that time on the Hero screen though.

Thanks dude downloading the HK one for me 'coz mine HTC hero was from HK .... hope this works for me............

And do u know how to fresh install ROM in the device?????

Yeah just boot the phone by holding down the back button while pressin power. This will start your phone in fastboot mode. When in fastboot mode just connect your USB and run the RUU exe.
