Napster and Onoin are the same person, I can almost guarantee it.

And now they are both gone! Or he's gone. Or she...

I hate to see a good punching bag go to waste...

we make posts like this, and it seems strange to most to be so obsessed, but this is nothing. coming from posting at crackberry over the years and being a crack head myself you wonder if some of those people actually leave their house at all. they have threads for waiting on OS's, when an OS drops you get posts like

it gets old real quick...

don't believe me? CLICK

Ummm... Did you REALLY need to take us back there??? Leak! NO, THIS LEAK! I got this one! There's another one? Hybrid??? ARRRGGGGG....

I can't say much but the next update for the Eris will not disappoint. This coming from a HTC tester

That's most encouraging thing Ive read so far. Please elaborate more If you are testing...how will It change our performance experience?

The onlhy real problem I have so far, and I'm not sure it's even an OS issue, is the time it takes for the phone to tell me I have a call. I have sat side by side with friends/family, had them call me, and listened to it ring 2 or 3 times minimum before my phone rings. THAT lag does bother me a bit, because it is a phone. It's nice that I can check facebook, run away from Zombies, rearrage gemstones, etc... But, if my phone doesn;t want to tell me I'm getting a call, I might just as well stuck with my Razr/Ipod combo.

In all reality, though, even that lag isn't enough to turn me off on the phone. I'm more than enough of a geek to enjoy playing with all the apps. And, if whoever is calling me can't wait 2 or 3 extra rings to talk to me, I didn't want to talk to them either...

You can fix this. You need to change your slot cycle from 2 to 1 or 0.
Hold on....

tells the phone how often to check the towers. 2 is the default, I think it's 5 seconds, setting it to 1 sets it to 2.5 and 0 sets it to 1.25ish. Don't remember how to change it but it's pretty straight forward. Just google it.

1. ##pst (##778)
2. "000000"
3. Modem
4. Slot cycle
5. When you're done exploring all the different options, be sure to hit "menu" and to save the changes. Don't back out as it won't save them.
6. You will be forced to restart and the changes should be made.

I bumped it from 2 to 1. Waiting to see the effect on battery life. If it isnt bad, I'll bump it to 0. Maybe its placebo, but I feel 3G is faster for me. Probably not, but i like to pretend it is.

Thank you both. Will have to wait for someone to call, or The Missus to get home to test ring time

Weird, but I changed mine from 2 to 0. My homepage loads faster and my weather channel app updates quicker. Hmmm. Although, I haven't noticed any change in the number of bars I receive as someone else has mentioned.

Does the slot cycle affect transfer on everything from the tower?

Has anyone noticed any change in battery by doing this? I don't want to be killing my battery in a few hours. I've been getting almost two days out of a charge.

I forgot to mention to hit "menu" when you've made the changes. You can't just exit out, or it won't save the changes. You'll be forced to reboot once you do.

That slot cycle change is pretty cool ... thanks!

Is there a list somewhere of other useful things one can do in the PST menus?

Nice tip on the slot cycle change. I was just wondering about this yesterday, my wife called me and the lock screen did not show who was calling, so I started investigating, can't let things go, ya know, and noticed the three ring delay between call and receive....seemed strange. Woke up this morning and found the answer. :)

Thanks for all the tips!

An update: I charged my Eris to full capacity this morning (took all of two hours, maybe a couple minutes more) and can say three hours later, my battery is at 100% after sending about 15 texts and making two 5 minute phone calls in the car. This is with the slot cycle set to 0. So far so good.

Thanks for the slot cycle info. guys. You're the best.
I didn't have a clue what a slot cycle was so I found this.
Hope it helps as an FYI.
Slot cycle is a setting which controls the length of a slot. A slot is (1.28 seconds) * (2 ^ slot cycle). So slot cycle 0 is 1.28 seconds, slot cycle 1 is 2.56 seconds, and slot cycle 2 is 5.12 seconds. The longest slot cycle is 7, which is 163.84 seconds. The slot cycle is controlled by the cell. The advantage of a short slot cycle is that it means that the phone gets more chances to receive a page before the call is routed to voice mail. However, this makes the phone use more power, so standby time is not as good. It also means that the paging channel has less capacity. A longer slot cycle provides more capacity on the paging channel and lengthens standby time, but also means that the phone has fewer opportunities to receive a page, so that it's more likely to miss it and have the call go to voice mail. You as a user cannot choose a slot cycle (even if your phone has a menu item for it).

That's pretty impressive. Mine immediately drops to 99% the first time I wake up the phone after charging.

Just used it extensively for texting surfing the web. Down to only 40%. My screen brightness is down to about 10% though, which is just fine for me. I didn't bother turning off mobile web at all today. Just to see how this thing was.
