Root 2.2.1 rooting

I know at one point it wasn't possible to root 2.2 via unrevoked. Is this still the case? I have been trying and keep getting the 'is your firmware too new?' error message. I have tried factory reset, connecting for charge and as disk drive, I have installed and uninstalled HTC Synch, leaving the drivers. Still no luck. Any help? Wildfire, btw.

I managed to get s-off on my mates Wildfire(running Froyo 2.2.1) using Alpharev-x. I then rooted using Gingerbreak.

However, I can't seem to install a Clockworkmod recovery.

I have tried RomManager without any success. It downloads the CWR but won't flash it.

Any idea on how to flash a CWM recovery?

I finally sorted it and thought I would post how I did it.

I installed the Root Toolbox app from the market.

I downloaded the ClockworkMod recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-buzz.img file. I have attached it as a zip file at the bottom of this post. Extract the file then place it on the root of your SD card.

Open Root Toolbox and click the advanced button followed by Erase Recovery and finally Flash Recovery.

This should have flashed the CWM recovery to your phone. You should now be able to access recovery to install roms, make nand backups etc etc.
