Help 2.2.1 update?

I keep reading threads to do an OTA update to 2.2.1 for DHD but if I do a manual check there is no update from my current 2.2

Is the update perhaps specific to a carrier or is the update request sent to HTC themselves?

Is there a way to manually download/install 2.2.1 (via PC)

This update is probably pulled by HTC i have a same problem and there is few threads about this issue.....it has been pulled because it is too buggy,at least that is the final answer that i have been heard......cheers.
