2.2 Discoveries

slide up on the top portion of the stock keyboard to get that second keyboard

Nice! You know how much of a pain it has been to enter Canadian postal codes? 6 digits: letter number letter number letter number! Lots of swapping between keyboards.

This at the moment is my favourite thread! I love reading the little gems that people are discovering in Froyo :D It makes me look that much more forward to Froyo when the OTA update is released! :)

I noticed that FroYo finally adds the option to have texts, gmail, etc vibrate only when the phone is in vibrate mode rather than either never vibrate or vibrate all the time. So happy for this.

Holding the app launcher icon also pops up a preview of your home screens like in Sense.

Can't believe I'm the first to mention this.

Couple other things I noticed:

1. In 2.1 I had USB notifications turned off but I had Debug Mode on, so every time I plugged in to USB on my computers, I would get the notification sound. In 2.2, this no longer happens.
2. In 2.1, whenever I unplugged the power (USB or Wall/Car Charger), the screen would come on and I would have to turn it off or wait for it to turn itself off. This no longer happens in 2.2 as well.

My stock 2.1 definitely did not do this, unless it was something that had to be configured and I never found it. CM did it by default, but I was only on CM for like 3 days before FroYo.

Stock 2.1 (at least on my N1) does have this feature. You have to long press on the "page" dots next to the app launcher, though, not on the app launcher button itself.

There's a new settings shortcut for Manage Applications. Useful if you don't run a third party task manager. Some of the other settings shortcuts may be new as well, but i'm not sure.

battery life is def better for me. my nightstand is just in and out of reach of my (weak) wifi signal. looks like the 2.2 upped the wifi reception strength and now my N1 spends less energy trying to hold the connection. normally if i left it off the charger overnight on the nightstand the battery would be drained in the morning. now the battery holds up ok overnight (wifi signal also does not drop out anymore). anywayss, for what it's worth..

If you dial *#*#4636#*#* and look in Wifi information , followed by status, you'll see a Refresh Stats button. Hit is and see what your link speed is, if over 54Mbps, then you're on N

Tested and got 66mbps so n wireless must be activated now.

the camera now has a 2x zoom, the video has the ability to turn on the brite LED when shooting, and now we got voice recognition on blue tooth. for example, i just tap the button on my blue tooth and i hear "speak now" i say "call john" and it makes the call.

Whenever loading a new webpage (with 2.1) I would always double tap the screen to zoom out as the page was loading. When I do that now (with 2.2) I almost always hit a hyperlink by accident. Must mean that they changed to sensitivity of the touchscreen in some way.
