Root 2.2 Froyo and 2.1 Comparitive

I had way to many bugs on Kaos.. It was faster for the first couple hours but after sometime it seemed it would start lagging really bad and even locking up for a few seconds.. I switched back to WW4.6 and I haven't had that problem at all..

For the first time since rooting I had a lag with the dialer on KaosFroyo. I could enter the numbers on the keypad MUCH faster than it could keep up. (I also didn't care for the lack of a search function on the dialer - I'm used to being able to dial a persons name and have them come up. I also didn't care for the way the dialer defaulted to Contacts rather than the dial pad itself. There may be settings to change both of those things, but I didn't find them)

It also seemed to me that both loading apps and changing screens were a bit slower on KaosFroyo, so after just a bit over 24 hours of use I went back to Xtr3.02 where things seem faster to me.

Note that on Xtr I am NOT overclocked (I know, blasphemy), I deleted SetCPU because I couldn't find settings that didn't drain my battery faster than I liked. I'm accustomed to still having a charge at the end of 16 hours, with SetCPU I was having to charge or swap batteries at about 10 hours. The last settings I used on Set CPU were 710/528 with a sleep of 128/245 (or whatever those exact numbers are). Even set that low I was burning through battery. Removing SetCPU made the problem go away and my phone still doesn't lag. Yes, it's a bit slower than when oc'd, but it's still much better than before rooting.

My main reason for rooting was to get rid of that gawd-awful dialer log the Eris had (and of course, just to geek around with different roms). Since root on Xtr I haven't seen one dialer lag (yea!) - which could be why the relative slowness of the Kaos dialer annoyed me.

Conap has a easily flashed zip in his grdlock folder here

HTC Droid Eris ROM Site

called ChangetoVZW.zip -- a 1 second flash in recovery and "Sprint" becomes "Verizon Wireless"

Thanks. I appreciate that. However the camera issue and gallery issues are also of importance. Once they fix those I am going to really give a solid look, use it for a week or so. Right now I have xtrRom3 tricked out and working smooth and fast. It has changed my opinion about the eris. I really dig my phone again so I plan to stick with it. I will venture into froyo land again once the bugs are fixed. I liked froyo don't get me wrong, it just needs a tad more spit and polish.

For those of you that are going back and forth between 2.1 and 2.2 I have a question.

In 2.1, to use A2SD, you need to partition your SD card.
In 2.2, (or so I understand), you do not want your SD card partitioned, but you can still store apps on the card.

How do you handle this? What I'm doing currently is when I've flashed a 2.1 rom I don't bother with A2SD. Is that the only way?

Sorry, Frisco, but this is kind of on-topic, isn't it? ;)

I use two different SD cards, since I had an extra on hand.

I'll be honest, I've been running KaosFroyo V23-24 for the last week now. It's definitely not as fast as some other 2.1 ROMs but after some tweaking and SetCPU settings (729/710 and 245/480 sleep) it's running pretty smooth but not lightning fast by any means.

I'm more than willing to put up with a little bit of lag in order to have the newest OS and IMO much better aesthetics, but that's probably just me. I'm loving Froyo and am confident punk.kaos will have it running even smoother real soon.

/my two cents

That's pretty close to my sentiments about KaosFroyo.. but I do find myself scurrying back to xtrROM as my default.

Having said that, I'm looking forward to the next version of Kaos.

I've also tried both Froyo ROMs, and they were both horrible. Very jittery and laggy when scrolling through menus, swiping between home screens, and even pressing buttons. Nothing responds like it should. I'm using PlainJaneV2 (2.1) right now overclocked to 748Mhz and it seems WAY faster and smoother than either Froyo ROM. Plus I HATE any keyboard other than the stock HTC Sense one.

anybody have a link? I'm running Evil 3 and would love to give this ROM a run but can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks

sorry to get off the subject, but can someone provide the download links to these 2.1 and 2.2 ROM's (xtr rom 3.03 and kaos froyo 23/24 and others)?

Much appreciated. I'm having a difficult time finding these links. I'd like to get started on this and hope to contribute to this conversation!

Check it out. WARNING: It may seem overwhelming at first. :D
