2.2 on Sprint EVO

So my guitarist walks in to the gig last night sporting his new Sprint phone (I THINK it was the EVO) that had Android 2.2 on it. I kinda stole it away for a few minutes and did some testing. He liked my Vibrant so much that he was encouraged to upgrade to the like...

I gotta say that it seemed much snappier than my Vibrant did. I noticed NO lag at all, and it felt more "controlled" if that makes sense. It reminded me of using my friend's i-phone in the sense that each time I selected a new page, or app, the response was crisp and solid. The web speed was the same as was on my Vibrant, but certain flash pages actually loaded slower, where my non-flash pages were up before his were. I tried (when he wasn't looking) to "lock" it up by selecting multiple tasks and web pages simultaneously, and to my surprise, FROYO handled it nicely. No locking or lagging. Kinda got hot in my hand though!

So ladies and gents, I'm looking forward to having this OS update on my Vibrant. I wanted to encourage members here to stay positive and that FROYO definately will make our phones MUCH faster and smoother! 2.2 is certainly a leap forward from 2.1. I wasn't sure how much of a leap until I was able to check out the new OS first hand. Well done Android!

What 'lag' are you referring to? Chances are you'll need to install one form of lagfix or another even after Froyo...

I experience slight delay or "lag" as compared to i-phone's snappy touch. That's the lag I'm referring to. No, I won't be installing "LAG FIX" but thanks for the suggestion.

we wont need lag fix after 2.2 -_- if we do whats the use of 2.2? Froyo is mainly to make the os better in performance so you dont need those lil fix like lagfix 2.2 on Vibrant OMG its gunne be SEXY!!! its well worth the wait, dont wanna get something that doesnt work then have to wait another couple of months for 3.0

Once the vibrant gets 2.2 its gunna blow all other smartphones out the water. theres gunna be no competition. iphone 4 will fall, evo will fall, epic/captivate/fascinate will fall/ and everything else coming out mainly G2 will fall to the samsung vibrant. this phone has my friends going crazy!!!! they want to trade so bad but nope.

and i know all this because i got 2.2 on my old G1 and 2.2 even makes that fast which is saying A LOT.

Well you are definitely staying positive. I'm not gonna get my hopes up though.

I was just kinda hyped up about how the latest version of Android "felt" while using it. I'm still anxiously awaiting the update, and if it performs as well as it did on my friend's phone....it will have been certainly worth the wait IMO.
UPDATE: He uses his GPS without issue as well!

Yeah but he has an EVO.

Now I want Froyo even more then I did before if that is possible.

Also does anyone know a for sure date for froyo?

Pretty certain you will need a lagfix after Froyo unless Samsung themselves do something about the RFS filesystem the Galaxy series uses. This isn't an Android OS issue. It been always a Samsung issue and only exist on the Galaxy series because of the horrible decision Samsung made.

Agreed, the lag fixes create an ext2/3/4 fs which are just more efficient and dont do the necessary writes that an RFS performs . Unfortunately it sacrifices half of your app space which is 2gb.
