Help 2.2 upgrading FAIL - help

When I tried installing the 2.2 OTA on my Evo i keep getting the android dude with a yellow exclamation, I have unrevoked forever but when I go to hboot it says S-ON and tries to load PC36DIAG.zip(i think)

Every forum I look at says in able to upgrade to 2.2 you have to have baseband 1.00.03.04.06 but i have 2.05.00.06.10 and build number 1.47.654.1

Any ideas on how I can upgrade? or maybe wipe my root permanently.. I've tried to and failed several times

1) How did you root in the first place? Just because you now have S-ON doesn't mean unrevoked didn't give you a custom recovery and root your ROM. Likely, that is what you have now.
2) There is no baseband 1.00.03.04.06 for the Evo. Right now, you have the OTA right before the froyo update.
3) Turn the phone off, then turn it back on while pressing and holding volume down. Once in hboot, select the recovery option. Are you taken to Clockwork recovery (or Amon RA)?
4) What is your hboot version?

Likely what is happening is that you have a custom recovery, which will not allow you to update via OTA updates. Your options:

1) Either flash the stock recovery or unroot fully with a RUU (PC36IMG.zip method), then accept the OTA update, or:
2) Update manually - See the Rooting for Dummies Guide under "After Rooting" for instructions.

My suggestion, assuming you've verified the above, would be to update manually, however, this is not a set rule at this point, as all OTAs can currently be rooted via unrevoked. That being said, if you want to leave your options open, you'll update manually, or at least, part of the way. You can also do something like this:

1) Unroot or flash stock recovery
2) Accept OTA update, but only up to first froyo update
3) Upgrade ROM and radios manually

That will at least leave you with an hboot that can still be downgraded. It's up to you how you want to go about it, but I'm going to guess that this is your problem.

I rooted with unrevoked 3 then i rooted with unrevoked forever when it came out.. if thats what ur asking.

I have clockworkmod version 3.0.05
My hboot version is 0.79.0000
.. I've used the rooting for dummies thing and its never worked for me :/

Okay, well, if that's the case, there really isn't a need for you to unroot. You can upgrade manually from here. You will need S-OFF, though, so if you have S-ON right now, go download unrevoked-forever (the flashable zip) and flash it from recovery. Verify you have S-OFF at that point.

Once you do, go to the rooting for dummies guide, and read section 6 under after rooting. That explains how to upgrade manually. That will not touch hboot, which is what you want (though, like I said, it doesn't matter at this very moment). Your other option is to flash Sprint Lovers using the PC36IMG.zip method, which will update your radios, too. If you're going to stick with a close to stock ROM, this is probably the easiest way to go about it.

Whenever I try to upgrade the ROMS manually too nothing ever happens

Make sure you have S-OFF, first (not always required, but it depends on what you're doing). Are you getting any errors? You might also want to downgrade to CW 2.6, depending on what you're flashing and what errors (if any) you're getting.

I'm trying to flash the PC36IMG.zip all it says is
"Finding update package..
Opening update package...
installing update...
Installation aborted."

You need to flash PC36IMG.zip files from hboot. They are basically a way of automatically flashing something like you would from fastboot. They are just img files, which overwrite internal partitions/firmware. Recovery is used to flash a collection of files using an update script. What is this a PC36IMG.zip of? You need to make sure that file is on the root (top level) of your card, turn the phone off, then turn it back on while pressing and holding volume down. What are you trying to flash, though?

oh.. well the only thing that worked was installing the unrevoked forever
installing from hboot?

You need to flash unrevoked-forever from recovery. Where are you at now? Do you have S-ON or S-OFF? I trust you still have your rooted ROM and CW 3.0.0.5?

okay i think that worked but... now its stuck on the "HTC quietly brilliant" screen

Okay, that's after booting up (white slash screen -> boot animation -> where you are now) correct? What exactly did you do? Was that PC36IMG.zip an RUU?

No it wasnt an RUU but now i have another problem lol it worked and upgraded me to 2.2 and then I went into the bootloader screen to back up my nandroid, i forgot to take the PC36IMG off my sd card so it loaded it again and i accidently said yes to loading it and freaked out and took out the battery to stop it and NOW it gets stuck on the splash screen :(

Hmm, okay. So what was this, then? Sprint Lovers? You said it updated to 2.2, so I'm guessing that's what you did. If so, this includes radios updates, but it's hard to say what it was doing when you pulled the battery. For future reference, it would have been better to just let it run again. That wouldn't have hurt anything. For now, though, with the phone off, turn it back on while pressing and holding volume down. Does that take you to hboot, at least?

Yeah after i took out the battery i could get the hboot but i just reinstalled it.. it just wanted to avoid all my stuff getting download :/ oh well lol thanks dude!

Yeah, I see why you wouldn't want it to wipe everything out, but it's better than pulling the battery :). So you were able to just reflash it, then?
