Root 2.3.3 (root) -> 2.3.4

Hi,

Does anybody know if an manual update from a rooted 2.3.3 stock Nexus S to 2.3.4 will work? I used Superboot to gain root.

If not, how would I revert to unrooted 2.3.3 before I apply the update?

Yes, you can go from a rooted stock version of 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 manually with no issues. You can even do it through CWM. However, the 2.3.4 update will unroot your phone and get rid of CWM.

To get root back, you'll have to reflash the CWM recovery image and run the superuser patch again.
 
How can I be sure which version of the 2.3.4 update that I should install?

My system settings contain the following:
Baseband version: I9023XXKB1
Build number: GRI40
 
Excellent! Updated to 2.3.4 and ran the su patch with no problems at all!

Now I am thinking about trying out Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 rather than stock. Am I able to flash this on top of 2.3.4 or would I need to flash the 2.3.3 stock before flashing Cyanogenmod?

You should be able to flash a Cyanogen ROM on top of anything as long as you wipe your /data and cache first. It's a full ROM, so it basically overwrites whatever version you're coming from. This is the case with most custom ROMs.
