Root 2.3.3 root gingerbread help.

Hey everyone. This is my first post, hoping that there aren't any other threads that can address my issue I've searched. So basically I want to root my phone. But don't currently have access to a pc. I've heard that anything lower than 2.2 can't be rooted without a pc so that must mean you can root gingerbread without a pc? I have a HTC wildfire s. I have the Linux terminal emu... And es file explorer. Is there anyone lol anyone who has done this before.... Or has sufficient info on it ? Really want to root this phone haha. :). Any feedback appreciated.

Lol. How sad. After all of my effort trying to find a way to root this phone turns out its not even supported by cyanogenmod. Maybe.I should have looked at that before trying to root it. Rather disappointing that I would need to buy an xtc clip too, as it seems that some wildfire s models have been shipped with s-off as standard.. ahhh the sheer dissapointment :( *cries*. Hopefully I can find someone who will let me use an xtc clip. Then hopefully they sort out the bootloader for wildfire s... So I ccan install cyanogenmod ^_^. Anyone else in the same HTC boat and want cyanogen?

if your phone is a CDMA version, then i dont believe you need the XTC clip. i believe that is only to s-off the sim card versions. as far as CM, there are a few people working on it, and there are ROMs listed as CM on XDA, though i cant confirm whether they work or not.
