Help 2.3.3 Update super weird problems

I got a problem. This is complex, so get a beer.

I updated to 2.3.3 today, and the phone performed just fine for a couple of hours after powering back up from the update.

For no reason that I know of, HTC Sense suddenly started trying to reboot and got caught in a loop that would only give me the option of Force Close, and then start the problem all over again. The only solution I found was by using the search button to get voice activation onto the internet, where I downloaded Launcher Pro. Used launcher pro to reset data for HTC Sense in Manage Applications>All (this completely resets your interface to factory, but it doesn't delete any data like email, texts, apps, etc.). This allowed HTC Sense to boot up normally, and give me a chance to hunt down the problem, but I had to re-do my Home Pages all over again.

I couldn't find the problem, so I downloaded the little 4MB update, and started re-doing the home pages when the phone powered back up from the small update.

The first thing I did was remove the large clock widget (which strangely wasn't showing any location or weather) and try to add the smaller, rectangular stock clock widget (the 14th one out of "Browse all HTC widgets"). When I hit "Current Location," the HTC Sense reboot loop started all over again. I did the whole fix with Launcher Pro again, but this time when Sense started up normally my mail app was missing. I went into Manage Applications and it looks like both the mail app and all my mail accounts and info are gone. The Mail app is still in the Manage Applications>All list, but it says 0.00B and it's not running. Can't figure out how to get it to run.

Now here's the thing: I've tried to see what else could be causing this HTC Sense reboot loop, but the only thing that starts it, that I can find, is that one widget when you hit "Current Location." No other clock widget does it, even if I hit "Current Location." No other app starts it. Also, none of the clock widgets will show my location in the widget itself, but it will show it while I'm setting up the widget, if that makes sense.

Also, after the second Launcher Pro fix, the mobile network had a real hard time turning on. It just said, "Turning on..." for about half and hour.

So, here are my questions:
1) Anybody else have this problem after these two most recent updates (Gingerbread and the small 4mb update)?
2) Why would a clock widget's current location option cause HTC Sense to lose itself and go haywire?
3) Why did I lose my mail on the second reboot loop fix, but not on the first? Why did I lose it at all?
4) What in the world does the clock widget (the 17th one out of "Browse all HTC widgets") have to do with mail?

Does anybody have any idea what's going on? I'm hoping to keep this sort of thing from happening in the future.

I cannot answer a lot of your questions as I haven't had any of those problems. But it sounds like something maybe corrupted after the firmware (Gingerbread) update. This happens once in awhile.

As far as solutions go, first I would try a battery pull (with the device powered on). Leave it out for at least 30 seconds, then put it back and power on the phone. If that doesn't help, you're probably looking at a factory reset. But before you do that, transfer any files you want to keep to your computer, use Appbrain (or an equivalent) to save your apps, try to write down any settings or passwords you want, & make sure your contacts are on either gmail, Verizon's backup assistant, or your sd card.

I haven't had to factory reset my Inc2 after Gingerbread, but I did have to on my Inc1 after the Froyo update, because I had some of the issues you are currently having (force closes, no location). Hope that helps.

1) Will the factory reset take out Gingerbread and bring me back to Froyo?

2) a) Re AppBrain: will it back up both purchased and free apps? Also, does it back up all data? b) how do I back up contacts to the SD card? I've checked that Gmail has them, but I like to have two backups if possible.

I'm glad you mentioned writing down the settings. I was assuming if the apps were saved the settings would be, too.

Thanks!

Sorry, one more question: will backing up the apps also save the data in them? For instance, I use several notepads; will my various notes be saved with the apps, or do I need to back the notes separately?

1) No, Gingerbread will still be on the device, otherwise anytime you'd do a factory reset you'd lose the firmware update you're trying to fix. Currently there is no way that I know of to go back in OS (like Gingerbread to Froyo or Froyo to Eclair) without rooting.

2a) I believe it backs up both, but Google will also backup purchased apps. If you go to the market after a factory reset and go to your apps, only the purchased ones will be there. With Appbrain you have to setup an account, sync it with your device, do the factory reset, go to the market & download Appbrain, login and sync it to your account. As far as the data/settings in the apps, I don't believe they will be saved. Best to record any settings you think you might not remember.

2b) You can use an app like Astro (or any file manager app) to back up your contacts to the sd card. It's usually something like export contacts, but if you can't find it search the forums. I only use Gmail to back up contacts so I'm not entirely sure how it's done. But, if I'm not mistaken, I believe there is also an option to do this in the settings (either in the main settings or perhaps under the settings in the people app).

As far as the question on notepad, I have never used that so I don't know. Good luck.

You are being super helpful, vzwuser76. I actually like Gingerbread better than Froyo, and I'm looking forward to getting rid of the bugs. One more question, if I may.

When the lady at the store put my Gmail account together for me, she misspelled both my last name and the username I wanted for the Gmail account. I've created a new Gmail account with right last name and username with the hopes that I could use that account rather than the wrong one with my phone.

But if I understand all this correctly, my phone's Market apps are all done through Google, meaning that if I switch Gmail accounts for my phone I lose all the apps associated with the old Gmail account by switching to the new one. That wouldn't be nearly so much of a pain if I didn't have so many paid-for apps. So my question is:

Is there a way to switch Gmail accounts without losing all the apps associated with the old Gmail account? If it helps any, I've backed up apps and data to the SD card via MyBackup Pro, I'll probably drag-and-drop whatever I can onto my computer (though I may not), and I've synced all my apps with AppBrain. Is there really no way to get my phone to associate all of its apps with another Gmail account?

anyone know why a Droid 3 on VW, would freeze and after using my other Droid 3 is says sd card is encrypted? HELP someone>>>mayday mayday!
