Root 2.3.340 Update Failed - Help

First off, this rooting & changing roms isn't what it's crapped up to be. To try & get back to stock, I installed the 928 back to stock de-odexed. Not know what de-odexed ment. The update failed atleast twice. I then installed the 928 back to stock odexed. the update then installed with no problems.

If you do this, I believe it will reinstall any stock apps like CityID, 3G Hotspot, etc. that you may have deleted. It might help those people whose updates are failing because they removed them.

Did you try reinstalling the theme after the update? Did it work?

Wow, that was weird. I just used rsdlite and the 2.2 sbf file linked above.

Everything looks like it completed fine and everything said successful, but when it booted back up, everything was exactly intact as I left it. All my programs and settings were in place. Wifi connected immediately.

But, checking for system updates still says no update available.

Any ideas now?

Yeah lex, I maybe wrong but I believe when you sbf it does not wipe data! You might have to do a factory reset! Before sbf or after I can't remember, somebody correct me if im wrong.

I thought sbf was a complete refresh of the phone back to whatever is in the sbf file.

If I had deleted, say City ID, would have have been restored with this sbf?

I'm still concerned that it's not showing me there's an update at all now though.

I see some other people reporting that as well.

I wonder if I should wait a bit and maybe the sbf/clear cache would let the update proceed, when available or if I need to do something further to get the update to work.

An update.zip would be real nice to try. Then I wouldn't need to wait for it to tell me it's available.

If I can avoid wiping the phone, that'd be nice.

Well when I got the full sbf for .320, I sbf'd and when the phone booted back up I still had my root apps but z4root was gone and I had no root then I did a factory reset all good now. A little bit of a hassle but it's fresh! I think I'll wait on the update, I like my root to much not unless the already got root for .340! He'll might hold out till gingerbread!! Or maybe not! Lol

Z4root works no problem

well i did a factory reset and did the sbf 2.3.15 sbf and now the system updates are turned off
Turned off totally? You might need to do a *228,1 to get that to work again.

Anyhow, I did sbf to 2.3.15 (which I was already on) then a factory restore and it still says no updates available.

Argh.

Ideas now?

Can't we get an update.zip to try?

Now even worse. z4 mod has taken 5 minutes and still seems to be working, but not rooted.

If I can't root, I can't restore with Titanium.

How long should z4 take? What else can I use to try to root 2.3.15 stock?

After it hung, I rebooted and re-ran it again and it said it worked and rebooted. This time titanium asked for root access and I granted it, but it still said it didn't have root, then I ran z4 re-root, rebooted and I have full root finally.

Restoring with titanium now and I'll be back at square 1 again, hopefully.

I read that the OTA update for the Droid X is only being sent out to moto test users and is on pause now and will resume the OTA rolling out to the rest of us within the next few days.

That does make some sense.

Has anyone been able to pull the update in the last few hours?

Where'd you read that?

Ok. I'm pretty sure I know why my OTA failed.

I had used homesmack with the long press search hack. That replaces the voicesearch.apk with a customized voicesearch.apk that doesn't tie voice search to long press of the search key.

I bet the OTA saw a file mismatch and failed.

Just figured I'd post this for help with others and future reference.

This is an option in homesmack to replace the apk, but I never thought of doing so until now.
