2.3.4 Update incoming for Xperia Devices

The post didn't say (was the UK page) but from what I understand Verizon Plays run stock gingerbread so whilst I would imagine that a 2.3.4 update would be released, I dont think it would include all of the same functionality because European Plays are skinned with SE's own UI that integrates the things like additional Facebook connectivity.

Not all of them... Like I said, Verizon ones run stock Android.

I found a place to download the 2.3.4 android update. Its like 200+ megabytes. I am wondering how to install it without rooting the device. As I have verizon it seems rooting is a problem with 2.3.3, I guess gingerbreak used to work but not since the 2.3.3 update. Any suggestions?

Try Cyanogen Mod. They just released the latest version (7.1) which supports the Play now. SE even helped them with the code and gave them like 20 devices to test it on.

Plus it's running on 2.3.7 so more features.

When will this update be live? I've tried using the update manager but it says i am running the latest firmware.

Does this work well with the PLAYs slide out controls? Like, can you navigate the home/menu screens in landscape using the game buttons?

Not sure, but it's one of their officialy supported devices and like I said, SE gave them test units and helped with coding so I should think the hardware controls would still work.

Is this for all Xperia Plays? Including VZW models?
Oh wow I found you, remembered you from when I had the Ally. Then I saw you in iFans.com. Today I clicked on the Xperia Play forums by accident and was wondering about this topic how you guys still didn't get 2.3.4. And stumbled upon you.

A heads up for anyone who still hasn't had the update I'd suggest connecting to PC companion. I was trying the update search on the phone but getting nothing but it was avaliable when I connected my phone. This is a bit annoying if your like me and almost never use the PC companion but oh well...

I tried using PC Companion but it wants me to put it into media transfer mode. From what I read Verizon uses stock gingerbread so I can't put it into media transfer. Do we just gotta wait for Verizon to do its thing since I can't update it this way?

Iv tried using the PC companion and it tells me my phone is up to date, even though I know it isnt! Its quite frustrating to think that other people can get the update, yet some of us cant

@DoomyGIR: I would have thought Verizon plays would be amongst the first devices to be updated seeing as how they don't need to tweak it to fit the Xperia UI, but aparently not. I just did a quick google and aparently the last update (2.3.3) didn't roll out on Verizon until a month after the other devices had it.

@Tim: Yea the process doesn't seem particulally smooth. I kept hearing about how the update was supposedly out near the start of October in the UK but it's taken me nearly a month for me to get it.

Apparently, Sony recently announced all of the recent Ericsson handsets will be getting the 2.3.4 update very soon. Can't find the article on engadget, but it's there :P

Is there a reason why im still not able to update to 2.3.4? Its november now and my PC companion and wireless phone update says that im up to date and there is not any updates! My carrier is AT&T and im in the U.S. but would that matter? Also does anyone know if the Playstation Pocket app is going to release anymore PS1 classics anytime soon?

Yah, it's because it's up to the individual providers to implement the update. So unless you have an unlocked version directly from Sony, you'll have to wait for your provider to update their versions.

And they should be releasing more ps1 games soon since they released the playstation certified tablet (soon to be tablets!) and are bringing the playstation app to other android devices (maybe already have...)

Okay thanks XperiaTACO4G! But if that's the case, how do you think they will inform everyone when the update is available? Would they generate a mass text or would A notification pop up on my phone?

Another question I'm wondering if anyone could answer is if the applicable Game content already on my PS3 could eventually be able to get transferred to my Xperia Play so I wouldnt have to double purchase PS1 classics and other content?

Updated mine through the PC software yesturday and all went well but now facebook won't sync

The "facebook inside xperia" account has a permenant error and will not sync.

Is there a link some one can post for the cyanogen mod I really want to root my phone but I am not comfortable with doing it although I did it with my D1 and D2 but I used the Z4root app

Most likely a notification, and you can use the pc companion to check too.

As far as I know that feature has not been implemented. Hopefully soon, but no guarantees...
