I don't see why folks can't just have some patience. Many complain before it is here and when it finally arrives some will find more to complain about.

I don't see anyone in this thread complaining? FWIW, it can be tough to make a decision on a handset when there is an update just around the corner that may not even make it to 90% of the handsets on the market today. As I have said before, I thing google should take more of a stand in this regard.

Well, judging by how things have come down as far as order so far... the Nexus line will be first and foremost to get anything.
The G2 will also most likely be getting it alongside with the Nexus line, it being strictly a vanilla phone.
Shortly after that, the most popular and advertised phone/series of phones will get the update, that being the Droid series (obviously) followed with the Evo.
After that, I think 3-5 months afterwards, Samsung might notice they're behind again and release something, though that's doubtful. They'll probably just throw out another line of Galaxy phones or something similar with (old) 2.2, or 2.1 on them, and after the 3-5 month waiting period those will get the latest and greatest.
Essentially, that which is from google comes first, next comes the vanilla phones, then the most advertised, then the ones with little support from the manufacturers.
(Slight biased against Samsung. Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me.)

If your thinking about buying a phone I suspect any HTC phone with a 1GHz processor should get it at some point. If you get a phone and it doesn't get it you can always flash a custom rom.
The Nexus s of course will be the first we wee of gingerbread in the wild. Then, I would suspect the Droid will get it, most likely the Droid X Droid Pro and the Droid 2( sorry droid 1 owners but i think it might take a lil bit a time before motoroal will put out the update for you, not until the new droids get them! ) ( this includes me

Isn't the droid 1 2 years old now? I wouldn't be shocked if it never got the (official) update in that case...
yeah its about 2 years old... but so many people still have them, how ever i dont think they are making it any more...and being two years old most people are elegible for an upgrade on verizon so if they really like the droid one they woild just go to the droid 2.. i hope it eventually comes to the droid one but it would makes sense if they did not..

you should all read this article, it tells about gingerbread coming very soon, dec 6th and it was leaked by a prominent dev

whos getting it first is what I want to know? if it releases for the N1 first, that does me no good, I have the evo, which was the first US phone to get 2.2 a few months ago

the G2 only has a 800 MHz processor and Gingerbread (apparently) requires 1 GHz

The G2, technically, has TWO processors, each at 800 MHZ. Its actually 2 cores, and both can be over clocked to 1.6GeeZees.
We can make it stronger, faster, better. We HAVE the technology.

That's why I'm not buying a tablet now. I'm wait for tablets that have Honeycomb preloaded and is LTE ready. I do go the the Verizon Store and Bestbuy whenever I can to play with the Galaxy Tab. Today I played with the Galaxy Tab for 30 minutes at Bestbuy. I LOVE the 7" form factor!!!
