2.3 update scheduled for June 12

According to the Telus website there will be another gingerbread 2.3 update released on June 12 for the LG shine plus..

i have a new phone so if it screws up my shine plus it aint no thang for me so i will update when it's released and report back

Went into my local Telus store today and asked them what my options are for an upgrade. They don't carry this phone any more and they admitted to how bad it was. The next phone they say will be difficult for me to keep my existing plan unless I buy a phone outright. If that's the case, I may walk and go with another provider.

Shine Plus isn't a bad phone per say, it's just plagued with software issues... Hardware wise, it's pretty great. I'm not surprised they don't carry it anymore though...

I have two Shine Plus' myself, so once the update kicks in, I'll upgrade the spare, test everything out and report back.

I think that LG makes as good hardware as any one else... software... now that's another story

Do you have any idea as to how this update will be offered? One post I saw recently said it was to come by way of the market. Since I have two Shine Plus phones one running (2.1-update1 V10d rooted) and the other ( original 2.3 Jiiliks v008 ROM) I don't know which one to try the update on. Also do you have to unroot the phone before updating?

I downloaded and ran the LG updater found at:

LG Product Support for LGC710H

It tells me that there is an update available (I'm running 2.3.3 unrooted) but it fails when communicating with the phone. Last time I ran the software a few months ago it said that I have the newest version...

If anyone wants to update their phones, I STRONGLY suggest updating a 2.3 phone (v20a) and not a 2.1 one (v10D). You cannot rollback a 2.1 phone upgraded to 2.3 (THANKS LG! GREAT JOB YOU'RE DOING THERE).

As for what's supposed to be released with v20B, mostly a bugfix edition from all my communications with LG. Of course, I was only partly expecting the update to be on time today. I give it until the end of June before we see signs of an upgrade...

Raskal13, I just tried to look for an update, none come up for my v20a phone...

Android Bob, also, the update will come through the LG update tool as specified above. I'll also post the ROM here once I can download it.

Do you suggest unrooting the phone before updating and thanks for your reply in advance.

It's always preferable to run a factory reset stock ROM when upgrading IMHO... If you're just rooted, it's not a big problem though. If you're running a custom ROM, it's a whole other story

I am running Jiilik's V008 ROM so should I restore back to LG stock ROM before updating or can I just attempt trying the update on the v008 ROM.

See now that's a very good question. I'd say it's not necessary to rollback to stock as we based ourselves on stock to make the custom ROM, but then again the kernel was recompiled... So I'm a little effy on that. I wouldn't chance it in case LG uses some weird update scheme that checks the kernel, I'd roll back to a stock firmware. What I recommend is this:

1. Make a nandroid of your current setup
2. Flash back a stock ROM.
3. Nandroid backup your stock ROM.
4. Nandroid restore Jiilik's ROM.

Once the update hits (Which is 2 days ago apparently, thanks LG and Telus I love you guys!) you can nandroid restore to stock and then flash new ROM to see the goodies.

I managed to upgrade my V20a to V20b a couple of hours ago. It seems to have fixed the wifi black screen lockup problem. Haven't noticed anything else different, but with that fixed I think I'll go back to using the phone for a while.

The phone was rooted but on stock V20b.

The issues were:

Bluetooth pairing issues (Random disconnects on certain devices)
Wifi blackscreen issues
Phone calls do not always ring
Issues with Nuance when trying to configure it (FC)

Test these things if you can update, as I cannot currently do it (Cannot download V20B from work)

Direct link to V20B for people who know how to update with the KDZ upgrade tool.

If this link doesn't work, try this one:

Same link but without the port number

ROM is decrypted. I'm gonna pass it through the usual custom ROM process as soon as I have a chance. Kernel will have to wait until LG releases source so I can update Jiilik's Github and recompile the kernel...

***EDIT***

Just upgraded the phone with KDZ_FW_UPD tool, went through flawlessly. Waiting for the phone to boot...

Upgrading over Jiilik's ROM works. I kept all my settings too... But of course, App2SD is gone.

I'm still trying to upgrade but with no success.

My first problem seems to be that the following will not install on my pc:

MCCI(r)Firmware Update Driver *for MTK

The LG updater keeps trying to install the USB drivers repeatedly and then fails on the updater ("Problem with communication between cell phone and PC")

Does anyone have a link for using the KDZ update tool? I'm new at this so the simpler the better :)

**Edit**

Nevermind, I used the KDZ update tool from the 'unbricking' thread and it worked!! The phone went to emergency mode after (the KDZ update tool crashed at the end) and after I removed the battery it rebooted with V20b!!

Took it out to the store and the WIFI disconnected and reconnected at home without the black screen.

Cheers karendar for posting the .kdz file!!
