2.3 update scheduled for June 12

http://androidforums.com/shine-all-...lus-rom-app2sd-support-stock-kernel-only.html

Custom ROM updated. Stock kernel for now so no OC support, but I added a new goodie: Updated Adreno (GPU) support. Should make things a little snappier for now until we can get an OC kernel. ;)

So same features as Jiilik's ROM except for the kernel (Which will comme at a later time).

Post impressions in that thread please, not here!

***EDIT*** Still missing the Extended power menu... If any of you have the old extended power menu file, send it my way! I don't have it anymore... That and Clockworkmod that Jiilik did (Stupid multiupload)

I decided to give the upgrade a try. My phone is currently running v10D.

I backed up all my data. I did a factory reset to get rid of all data and all apps in the hopes that a clean upgrade would be best.

I went to the LG website and updated the Updater tool (it still says upgrade available).

I then connected my phone and tried to run update. The updater showed that I have v10D and it said that I already had the latest version. ???????????

I call LG Canada support and spoke with a customer rep. She asked for my name and telephone number. She told me that the update has been pulled and will not be released again until next month. I said the LG website states that the upgrade is available, but she says it is no longer available. When I asked why, she said there were problems with it and they are working on a fix.

Can anybody else still do update? I wish I didn't do the reset. Oh well, I should have known better. At least, my phone is still working.

I can still download V20B just fine... And when I use the IMEI check link it tells me my phone is v20B... Worst case, use the KDZ update tool and do it from there instead, seems to work well for everyone.

If anyone tries to do a unrooted LG-C710h-V10d to the V20b could you post your results if any issues.

No issues updating from a brand new stock V10D to V20B. Had to find the LGUnitedMobileDriver S4981MAN37AP22 ML WHQL Ver 3.7.2 from an external website though.

Ended up using KDZ_FW_UPD_SHINE to do the update. Once to launch it into Emergency Mode, again to actually flash the file.

I tried using the LG tool several times and each time it said my v10D was up to date.

I then used the KDZ updater as described in the above posts and downloaded the kdz from the link provided by karender's post above.

I am happy to report that I was able to update from stock V10D to V20B using the kdz updater. It has only been a few hours but so far everything seems to work so far. I will certainly report back if I discover any glitches.

Only negative appears to be that my battery seems to drain faster. Anybody else notice any drop in battery performance?

It is possible that my battery is getting old (more than 1.5 years). In that regard, has anybody bought a replacement battery for their Shine Plus? I see that eBay has some after market batteries for less than $5 with free shipping from Hong Kong. I have purchased a case and screen protector for my galaxy tab and my wife and son's phone from various HK vendors and have been very pleased with the price and quality.

EDIT: It is starting to look like it may be just a battery problem not an updated OS problem. I borrowed my son's battery from his less than 1 year old Optimus One. The battery drain and performance was normal with the replacement battery (ie almost like when I first bought Shine Plus).

Has anybody tried updating from unrooted V10D directly to V20B??

If so, any problems?

Thanks.

I know you've already used the kdz, but I figured I'd share my results for posterity's sake: I upgraded to V20b from V10d a few days ago and had no problems. Phone is unrooted and I used the LG mobile update app.

I am no expert, but I think that the kdz updater is just an alternative updating method. So I think my phone is still not rooted. (No matter what I tried, I could not get the regular LG updater to update from v10d. I just have to thank all those who posted explanation/links for the kdz updater eg karender).

I am happy that there still has been no problems, yet. The only plus for me is that the GPS seems to lock faster. Otherwise, the other features have become less relevant to me (I no longer need app2SD because I prefer to load my apps on my tablet. Also, I still do not like the fact that the shortcuts become just generic android icons when they get loaded on the sd card).

I just put in an order for an aftermarket 2500 mA battery from HK vendor called Neewer, about $5 including shipping. For the price of a Big Mac, I thought I would take a chance. It will probably take 2-3 weeks for delivery based upon past experience. Hopefully, it will work.

Please let us know how this battery is. I'd love a second battery.

Will do. It was off of eBay. Search "LGIP-400N", Vendor Neever, if you want to see the ad. Standard international shipping so it will take a long time. There are a few Vendors which sell OEM batteries, some in US. I decided to take a chance on what is claimed to be a high capacity aftermarket version. They are all made in China.

I always hear "be careful", "they'll fry your circuitry" etc etc. So far I bought a cheap battery for my camera at Deal Extreme and a cheap one for my APC UPS. Both have been great! I don't expect them to last as long in terms of lifespan, but battery life has been comparable.

Cheap chinese batteries CAN fail circuitry after extended use, that's a possibility. Chances are small, but they're there. But in close to 10 years of buying aftermarket battery products, I can't say my devices lasted long enough for it to matter. ;)

What you need to avoid on ebay and the such is chinese suppliers saying "GENUINE LG BATTERY LIKE ORIGINAL". Those I'd avoid like the plague, as they're most likely immitation products.

If they're branded differently, no biggie on my end. I use an aftermarket battery in my Panasonic camera, in my Galaxy S2, in my cowon MP3 player, etc.

I tried file last night with uptest. Seems to be good. Been playing around with wifi for a bit today. No screen freeze. Something I have noticed on wifi though the Twitter, Facebook and weather apps and cant no longer update, cant download from play & says cant connect. Do apps only work on the 3g?

The issues were:

Bluetooth pairing issues (Random disconnects on certain devices)
Wifi blackscreen issues
Phone calls do not always ring
Issues with Nuance when trying to configure it (FC)

Test these things if you can update, as I cannot currently do it (Cannot download V20B from work)

Direct link to V20B for people who know how to update with the KDZ upgrade tool.

If this link doesn't work, try this one:

Same link but without the port number

I've been running the phone pure wifi no 3G... Everything works for me. Is it only through one wifi that you've tried connecting? do you have alot of remembered networks? Try removing and then reconnecting to these networks (Re-type the key) to see if it helps...

I didn't even have to do any of that. Few HOURS later it starting working just fine on WIFI like I would expect. No more screen freeze. Other than the lack of internal memory I am gaining the "like" back that I had for this phone when I 1st got it. GUess it just needed a bit of time to "settle". Its working great now :)
