2.50.405.2 update - now can't turn mobile internet off

I updated my phone to the latest update on Saturday and ever since I can't turn mobile internet off. I can actually turn it off, but it ignores me.

So, for example if I open a message that has an attachment to download, and I press download by accident, the download sets in motion the actual download and restarts the mobile internet connection - ie it overrides the setting I have set.

I can see enormous problems with this if you're abroad when this happens. Or when Google maps has an update and it tries to update automatically (I haven't figured out a way to stop it doing this - can anyone help with this??) and I'm used to quickly going to settings and truning mobile internet off so it stops it from downloading without a wifi connection. This I now won't be able to do. Real nightmare in terms of data costs if we can't control mobile internet.

Anyone got any way around this - or indeed - has anyone acually spotted that this is happening other than me?? Try it and see..


I have an unbranded phone on O2 and this issue so far only seems to be with attachements on texts (ie pictures) and google but not updating/refreshing weather etc or uploading emails.....

Did you get the 2.36 update or did you just jump straight to 2.50?

I noticed a little bit of APN funkiness when I went from 1.72 to 2.36 and it was connected to the quick settings in the notification bar as far as I recall. I had to permanently leave the Mobile Networks in the Wireless and Networks setting to on, same with the quick settings option, then use my Extended Controls Widget to turn it on or off when I needed it. I can't remember exactly what I did though and/or if it was an issue with Extended Controls.

Alternatively, if you uncheck the Enable Always on Mobile Data, that might help.

As far as I understood clicking "download" in a MMS always over-rode your mobile data settings as you are "choosing" to download the pic. If was "auto enabled" it would auto download the pic without giving you an an option to choose to download? Are you saying now that the setting remains on after you download the pic rather than defaulting back to "off"? If so it might be worth asking your carrier to send you an update of your APN settings as that may sort it out.


EDIT: As for Google maps etc.. .go into the Market store on your phone and go to "my apps" and in your Google maps app you can choose to turn off "automatic updates"
