Help 2 issues - quick advice needed, please

I purchased a D3 from ebay, because I did not want to wait for verizon to restock. The phone seems to have two problems, and I'm trying to determine if it's defective or just glithcy.

1) When I unplugged the charger, the battery icon indicated that the phone was still being charged. I know there have been battery/charging/reporting issues talked about on this forum. Is this something that is just a firmware thing - probably to be addressed in an update? Or are phones that have these problems defective?

2) There does not appear to be any notification light/led or any charging light. Even though I have the option selected, I do not get a notification light when I get an email, sms, etc. Also, when I plug the phone into the charger, there is no light of any kind. On every droid I have had, the notification light turns from amber to green once the battery is charged.

Also, does anyone know if the manufacturer's warranty comes with the phone, since I purchased from a person, rather than from Verizon directly?

I have three days to return the phone, so I have to decide quickly what to do!

Partly answering my own question (since no one else did - lol)

I downloaded an led tester app and the notification led works just fine. I am trying a factory reset, and see if I can get the led to work without all of my usual apps installed.

Hopefully a reset will help the charging issue too.

Just a quick note...my droid3 is on the charger right next to me and there is no LED light on...just a dark "resting" screen. The little lightning bolt is through the battery icon when i wake the phone but no LED. The lightning bolt goes away when i unplug.
My phone is running flawless in all the other ways--not sure if there is supposed to be an LED light on when hooked to the charger but I dont remember seeing any (on this phone [droid3])

No LED lights up when it is charging, unlike most other phones.

However, I haven't got a clue why your notification LED isn't working...

Well, go figure. Now my led notification lights are working. Maybe they left off the charging light because people complained that it was annoying at night, or something.

There is a small LED between the USB and HDMI ports. There was a post on the Motorola forum that indicated that it was a conscious design decision to change the behavior of that LED from a charging indicator to a "sign of life" indicator (it will light if your phone shuts off from low battery).

I am using the app, "Lightflow" to customize notifications, including to have the main color LED blink green when the phone is charged.
