Help 2 Notification Ringtones! HELP!

I am having an awful time figuring out how to change my text message tone. I went into the text message tone settings, and changed it to the one I wanted, but whenever i got a text message, the default would ring, then the one I chose would ring. So I went into the setting and silenced the notification ringtone, so just my text one would be on, but now it only plays half my tone and then plays the default tone. I cannot figure out how to fix it! I need help!

I got the ringtone using the Zedge app, but other than that I am not using an app to apply the tone. I am able to choose my tone, but the default still plays with it.

No I am not asking if you got the tone from an app, I am asking what app are you using for SMS. Are you using Handcent, Go SMS, Chomp, etc or are you using the default SMS app.

I am using the default. I did not know that there was anything else.
