2-Player Emulation!!!

Hey everyone,

Just a quick question...

Does anyone know if it is possible to use any android handset (preferably the SGS2) to play 2-player emulated games of any kind?

What I'm really after is being able to link 2 bluetooth controllers to one SGS2 to play SNES/GENS/GBA games on the train with my girlfriend.

Please help if you know anything! Point me in the right direction :D

Thanks in advance for any responses!

:)

Yes, I haven't done this but all the settings are there to be able to do it. I'm hoping to record some videos of my brother and I reliving old classics on my droid x2 using a couple six axis controllers and some emus. I'll double check this when I get home tonight, but it should be good to go.

Ludikhris,

Thanks for the quick response!

That sounds awesome, what phone are you using?

What Emulators did you test out? I'm mainly after SNES/GENS/NES.

Let me know how you got on, cheers!

Derp! I apologize for not following up on this. I'll set an alarm in my phone to check it out tonight. Real life has gotten in the way of my video games as of recent.

I do this all the time. I have a galaxy nexus and I use snes A.D. and genplusdroid emulators. Both are free. Then I use the sixaxis controller app (this is a couple bucks) to connect my ps3 controller to my phone. This is a great setup for me. I also bought a MHL connector which allows me to plug my phone into the HDMI on my TV so I can play the games on my TV too.

Definitely doable! Search YouTube for N64oid multiplayer, first result should be my video demo'ing exactly this!

(would post link but at work and YT is blocked, grrr)

I tested it with FPse successfully. Tried SNES9x EX and there doesn't seem to be an option to set the 2nd controller.

SixAxis Controller - the app that lets you use SixAxis controllers does allow multiple controllers. However it will boil down to the emulator you use as to whether or not you can play 2-player. Just check the info on the emu for whether or not it supports it.

Hey guys,

Thanks very much for all the responses, very informative!

So it looks like it's pretty much emulator support dependant. Snes9x not supporting 2player is is a real shame, I love that emulator and always use it on PC, I wonder if there is another snes emulator that supports 2 controllers?

Anyway, thanks again everyone - Happy gaming! :D

I'm at work so I don't have my controllers, but I loaded up YongZHs SNESOID which was a paid snes emu that was yanked like last May from the market and it has setting to map out more than one controller which means it is a SNES emu that will do the trick.

Here is a link to his slideME account where that and many of Yongzh's other EMUs are free (legit).

Enjoy!:D

Imo a real shame that bluetooth support isn't included in Gameboid. Have you guys heard of another emulator that has this functionallity? Else I might have to look into the source of Gameboid(heard it was open-sourced) in summer...

Ling-Ling what controller are you using? It's my understanding you can get most controllers to emulate keyboard presses which should trick GameBoid into thinking there is an on-device keyboard. As long as it supports keyboard presses you should be good. I have limited experience with that emu though, maybe I'll check it out if I get a chance. Most my time recently has been invested in MAMA4ALL at the moment testing games & functionality etc. I'll eventually be doing some emulator reviews on my site Pixel-Freak but for now it's mostly just reviews for standard Android games.
