Help 2 problems after almost a year

I have had my droid eris for just under a year and had no problems until lately.

1) The touch screen has been sliding to the left on its own without me touching anything

and

2) My phone battery has severly gotten worse out of nowhere this past week. A complete charge only lasts me 8 hours and this is with the wi-fi off and limited use of the phone in general.

Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have suggestions on how to fix either?

1) This is a common problem with the Eris. The trackball sensor isn't reading things correctly, and thinks you are always scrolling to the left. You can try to clean the trackball by rolling it over a clean piece of paper. If that doesn't fix it, you might have to attempt to get a referb.

2) This could be many many things. Batteries don't last forever and lose charge over time, so the battery could be getting old. It could also be an app that is stuck syncing. From the home screen hit menu>settings>accounts & sync and see if anything is constantly syncing. Also, make sure GPS is turned off. These would probably be the most common problems that would cause this.

When these batteries die they go fast. Verizon told me that if the phone is still under warranty AND you have insurance they would replace my battery for free. Otherwise it's $40. They are $30 plus shipping in the store here. I thought I was having battery problems so I ran the phone down until shutoff then charged it fully. That probably doesn't do anything but it made me feel better. :)

I think the stuck sync problem will kill your battery in less than 8 hours but definitely check for that.

The trackball problem will get you a replacement phone. Some people have gotten Incredibles.
