1) I noticed that my backlight seems to dim about 5-10 seconds after i start using the phone. I am not sure if that is the auto kicking in, or if its going to the lowest possible brightness, like after a few seconds of non use. This happens regardless if I am using it or not.

2) Is there anyway to prompt the unlock screen by pressing the home button?

Widget locker is an app that will let you program other keys to unlock the phone. It will also allow you to put an app on the unlock screen to use.
