Help *228 Problem

Firerealm

Lurker
I just got my Samsung Admire and paid the $50 for the plan online. The next step Metro tells me to do is dial *228. I've been dialing it for the past 7-8 hours and it says there's a problem or Programming Failed! Is anyone else getting this problem? What do I do?

I had this problem when trying to switch from one metro phone to the Admire. I originally tried to switch online. Got to the end and then it told me to dial *228 to finish the process (which is stupid since this eliminates the whole "online activation" idea).

Once I dialed *228 I either couldn't get the phone to connect to the service, or when it finally connected the operator told me this "phone has already been activated on another account". Huh? It's MY ACCOUNT!

Anyway, this is what worked for me:

- I switched service back to my original phone via the internet (THIS actually worked)
- turned the new phone (Admire) off; turned the old phone ON just to make sure it was successfully activated again. Then turned it OFF.
- turned the new phone (Admire) ON
- dialed *228 on the Admire (had to try this a number of times before it finally connected; try going outside for better reception?)
- press '2' to switch phones; press '1' for yes; input phone#; input 8 digit passcode; yes or no to insurance; wait "just another minute"
- process should be complete (they will restart your phone)

Be sure to not turn on the old phone for awhile as this may mess up the activation process. Also to note, you can do the voice commands instead of pressing the keys I mentioned above, but I found the dumb lady had a difficult time understanding me.

Hope this helps.
