3.5mm jack issues?

I read a random comment on a forum about someone saying they passed on the X because of known issues with the headset jack.

Are there issues with it? If so..what?

I'm trying to decide between the X and the Incredible and I will use the phone as an MP3 player alot, and I need the jack to be good.
 
I've never had any trouble with mine either. The only sound related issue I had was the earpiece speaker sounded distorted but I found that blasting a bit of canned air in there fixed the problem. I listen to music on mine all the time and don't miss my ipod touch one bit. Good luck on your decision.
 
The Jack is a piece of hardware so I guess it is possible that someone had an issue with theirs, but I use mine for listening to music and talking via a wired headset and it works perfect. The sound quality is perfect for me.
 
I have had a lot of issues from my headphone jack. While at the gym if I just bump the input wire, the music will stop. Sometimes random programs will start upon the headset being plugged in, programs not even related to music programs. And even though I have disabled it in every music player, and deleted then all except for the stock one, when I plug in my headphones it will stay playing music and randomly start shipping songs. I have tried several fixes but none have worked so far.
 
I use mine on my daily commute as well as the gym or even while I'm doing laundry. I've never had any issues.

Try a different pair of headphones and I would bet anything that will fix your problem.

I've never had an issue with my headphone jack and I use mine everyday. Heck, the headphone jack was still intact after a motorcycle accident (the phone wasn't even scratched either.)
 
to give you an idea, I have a 3-4 hour total commute 6 days a week, I plug my phone into my aux in line on my car with a double 3.5 male cord and listen to scanner radio the whole time. 18-24 hours of use a week since week one of the phone being released and it has work flawlessly the entire time.
 
I live in NYC and constantly use my headphones, if im ever not in my apt im using them, all day at work too. It has reached the point where angular pressure put on the jack causes the audio to stop (the same response as if you just pulled the headphones out mid song) I have to then the remove the jack and put it back in to get it to recognize that the headphones are actually plugged in.

This is most likely from constantly having it in a jacket/pants pocket on an angle and then being crammed on the subway, probably had to much pressure put on it a few times.

I also experienced the random starting up and playing of the stock music player, I used root explorer to change the system .apk to a .bak and the problem stopped

Ha Ha...same here except 2-3 hours and 5 days a week...but since launch day, I'm plugged into the Aux line and listening to Scanner Radio when I'm in my truck too.:D

scanner radio is freaking great! Im a volunteer firefighter but moved to another state (60 miles away) so my firehouse scanner wont receive the signal from that far away. now with scanner radio I can still hear whats going on while im at home.

Yeah, never had an issue. if you have issues, try other headsets (I have like 7 to choose from for reasons I don't really know)

Otherwise, get a replacement cause the circuit board is smurfed.
 
The only issue I have had is using a line out cable. If my media volume is all the way up on the phone, it is highly distorted on my car stereo, so I just lower the media volume to about halfway and it works fine.
 
I had the cord that came with my phone go bad. I thought it was the jack at first but I had a spare lying around and the spare cord worked.

I get the same issue with my droid x exactly as you described until I rooted and uninstalled the default music player.
 
i have no problems and i too use it several times a day. the stock output cable that came with the car dock sucks and makes some noise when it is bumped, but a replacement from amazon or best buy does the trick. but that's just the cable.
