3 network Froyo update Wildfire

Skeet1981

Hi all.

I'm quite new to this forum lark so apologies if I'm asking a stipid question thats been answered a million times...

I have a 3 branded SIM locked phone unrooted. I've checked for the update to 2.2 countless times with no joy.

1. Do I need to debrand or unlock or root or anything to get this update?

2. Has anyone else with the same branded, locked and unrooted phone on 3 already received the update?

So do I wait or can I do something to get this update sooner?

Thanks

Part of the problem is that Vodafone UK have really embraced the Wildfire and clearly have some internal techies who have accelerated the update process, quite refreshing and unusual for such a big company these days.

Chances are the likes of Three and Orange have not customised their firmware version hence why it's not available to you yet. You might want to keep on an eye on the Three forums or even phone them up and ask when the update will be avail.

Slightly off topic but I'm not quite sure why people get so hung about debranding, sometimes seems to be big bucket of hurt from what I've read here. On Vodafone at least it's just a splash screen and couple of apps to hide..zzzzz

here this is how i done it.

Make sure you uninstall HTC sync from computer if you have it.

first download this tool
ZumoDrive - reflash_package.exe
and download the ROM
ZumoDrive - signed_121810_120233.zip

when downloaded

On phone go to
menu/settings/applications/development and enable
USB debugging
Connect USB and put phone in disk drive mode
copy the ROM ( second file to the sd card )
Put phone is Charge Only mode

Run the first file its called Unrevocked wait until it says DONE
DO NOT TOUCH PHONE AT THIS POINT

when its done turn off the phone or it may start up with green writing. if it does do as i say

scroll down to wipe/data factory reset ( this will erase all apps on phone )
then
install zip from sdcard
choose zip from sdcard
and choose the seconds file you downloaded and wait until its done do not remove battery.

You must have at least 50% battery or it might die

any problems message me or reply.

it is shown in the three blog the they will not start to test froyo till January 2011 so will probably be released then for 3

How risky is flashing the phone? Can you take a disk image of the phone prior to the flash which can be restored?

I am quite annoyed with three and htc for locking all of this down. It is completely against the open source spirit :(

Ryan I'm on a contract with 3 ,whats the deal if I flash to the "stock rom " isnt this against terms and conditions or can I just do it ?

yeah it voids your warranty but who cares im insured so i dont care if something goes wrong with mine ill step on it and get a new one.
