Help 3 Vibe Brick

I have an HTC Wildfire S. When running a RUU I tried to turn the phone back on and it will only vibrate 3 times.

I have looked for the last...20 hours straight to try to fix this junk to no avail. I have searched and tried everything!

I know I need to make a Goldcard, can't get that done as every way I have tried whether through HEX editing or automatic tools it fails and tells me I need to format my card, tried 3 different cards from 64MB (yes it is small but I am desperate) a 2GB and a 8GB. Nothing, fails every dang time.

Since this phone is not connecting in anyway what-so-ever I have tried to use my LG Elite to get CID's and so on but it keeps failing no matter what. The tools don't say they have failed though they say it is successful but it tells me the card needs formatting as soon as I try to remount it.

Tried putting the PG76IMG.zip on the card anyway and nothing.

I need to get this thing fixed. Thanks in advance. :D

Sorry you've not got a response, but your post was only 8 hours old.

When you plug the phone into your PC, does it register? Does your PC pick it up at all? If yes, what as?

I guess I was working on the dang thing later than I thought. You are right, sorry.

No it does nothing. Vibrates three times and that is it. I think right now at this point I am having a harder time creating this stupid little Goldcard though. After almost 30 years of computers this is driving me nuts.

I tried at least a dozen different things to get it working right from two different computers one running Vista and one running Windows7. I tried different accounts and running stuff as administrator, enabling the admin account in both versions of windows and nothing.

Boy... any help is greatly appreciated. I am sure I am missing something simple but I just can't see it.

Again sorry, just frustrated and desperate to get this darn thing fixed, I need it pretty bad.

Thanks! :)

No problem, I can understand your frustration, been there myself.

I'll see if I can get some of our HTC experts can provide assistance. I'm not overly confident, but we'll see what we can do. :)

I think some important info is needed here.
For example.
Country?
CMDA? GSM?
IE, Does you phone have a sim?

Getting your sid doesn't have to be done with a phone, it can be anything that can read the memory card, a card reader for example..(Duh ) :P
Which RUU are you trying?

I usually get my RUU from Shipped-roms.com but it seems to be down atm.
Are you going for the HTC Buzz ones? That being the code name for the wildfire.

It's *very* important that you are using the correct RUU. Flashing the wrong RUU can easily lead to a permanent brick. The RUUs I linked was only a set of *possible* RUUs .

I already have the CID's, know how to get them and that they need reversed and all of that if not pulled with a tool such as Goldcard Helper that reverses them for you. I am having a problem getting the card to read AFTER I have followed all directions to a T. I am no dummy and for 30 years of working on computers, heavy equipment, cars, other electronics and such have asked very little to get things to work and this just seems so simple to me.

When I HEX edit the card from 0 to 170 it comes back as a card that needs formatted again. I have tried to format the cards, use the tools that would format and write the HEX and I still get the same thing. I am using cards other people have successfully used and have even changed cards several times between several brands. I know I am missing something simple or doing something wrong. (duh right?)

After I get that darn thing to work right then I will grab the RUU I need, get the rom.zip out of it, change it to pg76img.zip and move on to the next steps. Since I don't have a goldcard yet then I must create that first so if ya'll can help me get that done I will probably be out of your hair or freed up to help others with what I have learned through this fiasco.

I learned the hard way that the proper RUU is VERY important since I flashed the wrong one and here I am now and will pay better attention next time for sure! :) Honestly I did this months ago and went and bought another phone and put this one on the shelf for a future project. Now here I am in the future needing this one since the other lost it's NVRam and needs to go back for repair, maybe. I have repaired most of the NV but I am missing some info I need to get it to reactivate but that is for yet another forum.

Hey... Thanks everyone for your replies. I will seriously listen to what you have to say and do my best to not waste your time and get this thing going. Normally Google is my friend but it is not helping me now so I am here with hat in hand asking for help. I really appreciate all of your input.

Info That I know: HTC Wildfire S, USA, CDMA, no sim and only vbibrates three times no matter how long I wait for the image to be verified. I am thinking the goldcard first. One step at a time we will get there I know we will. Sorry for the long post. If you have anymore info I am thankful.

Are you sure that you need the gold card? Every fix I've read through doesn't mention needing the gold card. The rom.zip will at least get you booted. I believe the gold card is only for achieving root.

Edit: found another unbricking tutorial:

Maybe not. I have read some that mention it and some that don't. I tried the easy way without ans assumed I must need it since nothing was happening and if I remember right I did get a stock CDMA USA RUU and it didn't work so I gave up. I have tried a "stock" PG76IMG.zip file that someone else pulled for the same model phone but it doesn't do anything either.

I guess I need to extract the rom.zip myself and see if that works. Any suggestions which RUU is the right one since I obviously have failed identifying that portion already? Thanks!

Who is your cell carrier?

Do you have the SDK set up? If so,put the phone in fastboot, and copy/paste for us the results of:
fastboot get var all

Knowing your phones hboot, baseband,CID,and mainversion will help us find an ruu that will work without s-off or a goldcard :)

How can I get it in fastboot when it is vibrating instead of starting up? I haven't been able to get it to do anything except vibrate.

EDIT: I tried it and all I get is < waiting for device >

Since you have talked of needing a gold card and finding an ruu,I assumed that you were still able to get into hboot(where you can select fastboot with the vol rocker and power button).

No ruu is going to fix your phone if you can't get to hboot or fastboot to install it.

So I guess the big question now,is: can you get to hboot if you pull the battery for several seconds and hold volume dowm+power(pushing vol down slightly first)?

people here saying you need to take the ROM.zip out of the RUU and flash that, i never did that when i RUU'd my GF's old Wildfire. Just got the RUU and installed it.

BTW, i'm not sure if you are aware of this, but a goldcard is only needed to flash a RUU that is different to your carrier, with the exception of unbranded ones.

If you can tell us your carrier, we can *Try* find the correct RUU for you.

I had a look on Shipped roms but couldn't see any CMDA ones, though i did come across this link. ( not sure if its the same one that has been posted, not checked )

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074445

That link leads to this one here.

FileFactory Folder View - Marvel

ideally, a generic one would be best ( No branding at all ) but CMDA is not my strong point, so i can't really say which is best for you, that's why we need to know your provider.

NO RUU is going to flash,if he cannot enter hboot or fastboot. not any exe style ruu or rom.zip(PxxxIMG).

if he has inadvertantly installed a gsm rom on a cdma device, the device is likely unrecoverable without JTAG(special software in linux,or a "riff box") and is only recoverable then if the phone was bricked while s-on. and even then, its only recoverable if only the hboot is damaged. the radio typically does not live in flash memory, and is thus not repiarable if the partition was damaged.

the 3 vibes are typical of the phone being very upset, and forcing itself into qualcom diagnostic mode. with a corrupt bootloader, the phone is not likely to be able to process the image as described in sdraws incredible link( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14831391&postcount=9 )

so again,the big question is...

rwperkinsjr, can you boot to hboot(aND then fastboot)?

if the answer is no,im afraid your phone is likely not recoverable. :(

Pulling the ROM.zip out is done because the phone doesn't boot up, so you can place the ROM directly on the SD card instead of relying on the PC needing to communicate with the phone. So theoretically, even without being able to see the screen, the phone can load the stock ROM directly off the SD card from the bootloader. There is a few accounts of the 3vibs (Qualcomm diagnostic mode), being fixed that way.

Ooooh i see, got ya.
Thanks.

This is exactly what I am trying to do. No ADB, No Hboot, no fastboot but I have the three vibes and others have said that it is recoverable by pulling the rom.zip, making a goldcard, renaming rom.zip to pg76img.zip and starting the phone holding the proper buttons.

I have tried both the VM stock RUU and the Sprint (marvelc) RUU and just can't get it to work.
