3 way calling problem on Sprint Hero

I just got my Sprint Hero on Saturday, but am not able to make 3 way calls with it. It puts the first call on hold, and appears like it is trying to call the 2nd number, but it never rings or connects. I stopped in my Sprint store to have them help me with it. Clerk working there tried it with his Hero and had the same problem. HELP!!!

As you are aware, there is a problem with the software/user interface on the HTC Hero when using the 3-way calling feature. You can still use 3-way calling, just don't use the phone's software. Instead, use the old method as if you were using a simple phone (non smartphone). This is how you would make a 3-way call using only the "send" button:
