Root 3.x.x.x vs 2.x.x.x backups

In the process of installing icarus I made a backup with clockwork mod 3.0.0.5. but since i needed 2.5.1.8. i forgot to make a backup using that version. is there a differance? am I going to ha vetrouble flashing to stock or restoring in the future?

Yes backups must be restored with the cwm version they are made on. Unless you are still stock and can backup with 2158 then you may want to grab 3005 and restore then flash 2158 again. Or if you are metro you can flash stock unrooted any time.

I'm not sure about restoring a 3.xx with 2.5 but I know the reverse works. I changed to 3.0.2.4 and have had no problem restoring my 2.5 backups.
