If not 100% stock (no themes, ROMS, and to be 100% safe not deodexed), get there with either SBF or maderstcok.I have a stock rooted Droid X and wanted to put on GB 595 but wasn't sure what the procedure to get there was. The main reason for this is the different ways I have seen posted to get there.

From stock .340, rooted or not to .595:
Download z4root (if not rooted), Droid 2 Bootstrap, the 3 parts of the .588 install, and .595 (I recommend deodexed and rooted, because people have been having problems with the odexed one)
(if not rooted) Root using z4root
1. backup your files and whatnot however you usually do. I did a TiBU of all of my user apps+data as well as my user dictionary. Also did a backup of my call log using "call log backup and restore"
2. install droid 2 bootstrap, reboot into recovery, wipe data/cache, and install all 3 parts of .588, sequentially. You must install all 3 before you leave recovery. Wipe data/cache again here. (Yes, you're wiping it a lot when there shouldn't be anything on there, but its the easiest way to avoid bootloops)
3. Install .595 (deodexed, rooted)
4. At this point I'd reboot, reinstall droid 2 bootstrap, and do a quick backup of the clean GB install. then i'd start restoring everything I backed up from step I.
Note: This will make it so you will need to flash .595 stock odexed before you could take the OTA. Since you will already be on .595 though, you will have no trouble porting all data over, and it will take 2 sec to get ready when the OTA comes out.
