3D gallery now available!

this has been posted before as i believe i've previously said that when using this app, if you hit the cam button, it doesn't work. if i remember correctly, the app actually force closes.

Some clarification in how this gallery functions.

- It will at times reload the thumbnails. This typically happens if you mount your SD card as a drive on your computer and make any changes. At times you'll go into a folder and there will be thumbnails missing. Sometimes it will load them, sometimes not but you can still get to the full image.

- The integration with Picasa has to do with it accessing your Picasa account if you have one and it creates thumbnails on the phone. You must be connected to the network for it to load the full image or you'll just see a larger blury version of the thumbnail. This is why the app needs the access it has.

- The share function is not great. I have a lot of options of where to share to. In landscape I can only see 7 of them and there is no scrolling. In portrait, I can see more but still missing some. Some of those I'd never share to but don't know how to remove them. The list should be made to scroll regardless.

- A lot of what it does is just fancy display tricks. The HTC gallery is much simpler and better integrated.

I'm glad t have both options. I generally use the 3D Gallery day to day. But I like certain things about the HTC Gallery so I'll use that too. For instance, it creates albums for All photos and All videos. The sharing function works better although the 3D one lets you share multiples depending on conduit. Plus the HTC Gallery is the one integrated into the camera app.

All in all, nice to have choices.

I don't have any problem hitting the camera button in the 3D Gallery. In fact, it asks me if I want to use the stock camera or Vignette which I have installed.

I did have a problem with it the first time I installed it but it was called by another unrelated app called LED Light.

Not bad ... I do like the fact that you can check multiples easily. Sadly, I somehow managed to delete an entire album this way (I could've sworn I only checked about 6 photos), and I'm not sure how. I've got my SD card backed up, but still, be careful!

That happened to me as well. Just exit the app and then reopen it and it will be restored....or at least that is how it happened to me.

Also no problems going from the 3d Gallery to the camera when hitting the camera button ... launches the camera no problem, have never gotten a force close from it yet.

I already had the 3D Gallery loaded on my phone, but the Froyo keyboard from the Good and Evo link is awesome. I still use ShapeWriter as my primary keyboard, but when I need/want to go to a touch-to-type keyboard, that Froyo keyboard will be my new go-to.

So do people like it just because it's 3D and looks cool or is there a functionality trade-off?

And since someone mentioned the DroidX k/b, is there an apk of it that allows it to work on the Evo? I loved that k/b.

To my understanding and experience people are liking that the stock gallery has everything out in the open. The 3d counterpart is beautiful but the features are slightly harder to get to.

I couldn't get thw keyboard to work, installed and even had " Android keyboard" come up in the language and keyboard options but when I go to type its still the same old keyboard

follow these steps

  1. Tap the Menu key on your EVO.
  2. Go to Settings -> Language & keyboard.
  3. Find the name of the keyboard you just installed under "Text settings" and tap to select it. If you installed more than one keyboard, you can select all of them here. You can also adjust individual keyboard settings if the option is available.
  4. A pop-up window notifying you of the possibility of text collection will appear. Tap OK and go back to the home screen by pressing the Home key.
  5. Launch an app (or press the Search key) and press and hold in a text input box to bring up the "Edit text" pop-up window.
  6. Tap "Input method" from this window and select your desired keyboard from the list.
  7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 to switch keyboards whenever you want.

Worked perfect, what's bad is that I knew that but didn't realize it until your post thanks buddy

The keyboard is unbelievable. I typed as fast as I could, and it didn't lose a single letter, even in portrait. And the autocorrect is pretty damn accurate. I'm rethinking my loyalty to Swype now ...

Anyone know how to stop the sync with your Picasa account once you have granted permission? I decided I didnt want all my pics to show up on my EVO. Thanks

Yeah.. The 3d Gallery is nice.. I like the pinch and peek feature.. but I still hate seeing all my jpg, png, art thumbnails, i wish there was a filter with 3d Gallery I just want my camera pictures. Still it's a lot prettier then stock.

Search here for ".nomedia". Too tired to explain it all again.

I did the .nomedia trick in the root of my Music folder, since that's where the art is stored. However, this had the unfortunate side-effect of hiding all of my music from the music player.

Thanks!!!...now this is where that chrome to phone thing really comes in handy...press the button...pow...bam download...install...all in less than 60 seconds!!!

Agreed! I too used Chrome-to-pnone to pass the link to the APK to my phone.
