3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

I agree that it definetly has passed already.

In the EVO case, HTC requested it to be held until June 30th but HTC gave them the go ahead to the FCC to release the info on May 7.

So I guess we are waiting on HTC.
 
I can't recall the site, but I think it was official sprint website.
Anyways, I was browsing the forum and someone posted the link to sprint NAScar site,
it has ads for 3D EVO and it said coming soon instead of coming this summer....
so I am thinking it should be announced soon. What do you guys think?

Just for some angled perspective, The Flyer, with which the EVO3D was annouced, was reported to have passed FCC on 29 April , and is currently on sale at Best Buy - less than a month after reportedly passed FCC. So even if the 3VO hasn't yet passed (which I believe it has and been "kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under Funk and Wagnall's porch since..."), we still have hope it will come out before my birthday! :D

Actually, the Flyer (WIFI only) was announced at MWC. The EVO View 4G was announced with the EVO 3D
 
I think I'm going to hold off on my pre-order until I find out more about the ability to root. I want to get rid of the bloatware and possibly OC and change the boot animation. If HTC/Sprint will not allow this, then the release date is irrelevant to me.

I'm officially waiting a little longer until I decide on my upgrade. The one thing I hope is that it doesn't have the form factor like the Droid X or X2 where the top part juts out.

If the Sprint version is more streamlined, I think I may have a better idea of which device is better for me to upgrade to.

Glad I'm not the only one. I really wanted a new gen phone I could root and on which I could install custom ROMs. This Samsung Intercept....fails. Hard. Anyway, I am still confident the devs both here on the forums and over at XDA will find a way to break this phone wide open.

HDMI ought include HDCP; once the phone is trusted by download on one side and the TV on the other, it's no different than a Roku or AppleTV or whatever.
 
My only issue with all this Oprah talk is that it isn't exactly the demographic for smart phones. I would expect her to give away HTC's new tablet (with some streaming tie in) as opposed to the Evo3d.
 
When driving past the Sprint Store today (it's a corporate store...has working demo units, doesn't say "By So-and-so" on Sprint.com) had this on the billboard:

NOW PREORDERING EVO 3D!

or something like that. I'm groggy in the morning. I'll snap a pic later if people don't believe me! I only post this because people are saying you have to go in and ask for a corporate store about the Evo 3D. Here's one location that isn't waiting for you to ask. Or is using the sign as a very creative loophole...because you have to go in and ask, in reference to the sign.

While my kneejerk reaction is to say the same, and I even went so far as to claim I was done with it yesterday, I've realized that I was a bit too hasty. Now that HTC has at least claimed they're reviewing their policy and that more info will be out shortly, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until we hear further.

The bigger "problem" for me is that, let's say they decide to stay with the encryption, and then an Engineering HBoot leaks so we can achieve full root. I'm angry with HTC for doing such a full lock down job (which would subsequently likely be the same on future hardware), and feel as though I should "boycott" them for doing so as my own miniscule way of voicing my opinion with my wallet, but I don't know if I'll feel that way when it comes out. Taking a moral stand is a lot harder when you realize that it doesn't effect you (at least in the near term).

Curious how many other people would be the same.

My main Aggravation with it.....Its My Phone. I Paid for it.
I should be able to do whatever I want with it.
If I can't do what I want....I won't buy it.

Its a HUGE bummer ....cause I REALLY wanted this one.

If there was another phone that could compete, I would drop all plans for this phone. Say Verizon announced they had a Samsung or LG 3D phone with similar specs and an unlocked bootloader for sale this weekend. I would port all of my Sprint lines to Verizon this weekend and buy 4 of them, paying Sprint 4 ETF fees in the process.

That argument has about the same weight as saying I own a home and if i want to make it into a brothel or meth house, i should be able to.

It may be illegal to do those things....but you can do them.
