3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

199 after 200 instant savings with a new line or eligible upgrade, according to the email today :) Looks like a 399 price tag at sprint. Here is the link:

Sprint - IT'S ON: All-new HTC EVO devices are coming

I can't imagine it's only $400 full retail at Sprint. If it is, it would make sense though. That way it would not be cheaper to just start a new (additional) account and pay the ETF.

If it's really $400 full retail at Sprint, then disregard all that stuff about starting a second account for a month. I would obviously just buy all of them at Sprint. I hope that is true. Sprint needs to clear all this up.

There should be no confusion whatsoever regarding price right now. If the release date and contract price were announced, the full retail price should have been announced at the same time.

Okay guys, so I just got this from the fine print at the bottom of the "Sprint Premier: Enter for a chance to win a HTC EVO 3D" email from today:

"Phone Offer: Offer ends 7/22/11. While supplies last. HTC EVO 3D $399.99 (two-year price) - $200 (instant savings)= $199.99 (final price)."

So apparently $400 is the "two-year price" (which I assume means the price for 2 year contracts- after the $150 discount). They are taking an additional $200 of (instant savings) to make it $200. And if that is the case (which is what we were figuring anyway), the full retail would be the $550 that we thought it was.

So is the Radio Shack preorder giving out false info? Or are they actually cheaper than Sprint full retail?

So confusing. Sprint needs to clear all of this up. Preorders have gone mainstream now, no longer a secret that you have to ask about. Pricing has also gone mainstream, with the $200 being listed in every ad. So we need to know the full retail price. You'd think Sprint would be pretty open about that full retail price too, since a large portion of the people buying this phone will be coming from the Evo 4G and won't qualify for the full upgrade price (without calling and complaining about the new premiere tiers).

We know that as you can see from our back and forth. What I am confused about now is the break down. Where does the 150.00 upgrade discount factor in with this 200.00 instant savings and a price of 399.99 before savings.

The line says with a new line activation(or eligible upgrade). I took this to mean that the upgrade discount would be 200 for those eligible, not just 150. Am I interpreting the context of the email incorrectly? Granted, I have only been with Sprint since Friday, but this does seem to be accurate. I may have to stop in to the store on my way home from work this afternoon just to get this cleared up hehe. I hate non-resolutions to this type of stuff.

You and I are on the exact same confusing page. Again I think the full price from Sprint will be 549.99 for no contract extension. Perhaps Radio Shack is doing the same thing that Amazon often does and under cutting the price by 50.00 although amazon usually takes it on as instant savings with 2 year agreement. And Best Buy has it at 599.99 to add to the confusion.

Typically Sprint gives an instant dollar amount and a mail in rebate amount and 150.00 discount for a grand total of some number off. The 399.99 is where we are kind of thrown off however the more I think about the phrasing of "HTC Evo 3D 399.99 (two year price)..." I believe they are saying "here is what the phone costs when you sign a two year contract (so the 150.00 is taken off) and we are also going to give you an instant savings of 200.00. If you are eligible of course. Join us won't you". What they haven't given us is the "FYI if you aren't eligible for the 150.00 upgrade and want to buy it off contract then you will need to pony up 549.99". I have unconfused myself (yup I am making up words again).

I called sprint today and asked what the full retail on the phone was, she said 399.00. I didnt believe it at first so i asked again and she said yes it will be 399.00 full retail price.

I just can't believe that it is only 399.99 full retail with no contract. Reps often don't have the full correct answer. Call again and ask if the instant savings includes the 150.00 off for upgrading customers.

There is no way this phone's off contract price could be $399, $549 definitely sounds more plausible but if it is $399 I will definitely just buy it at that price and not sign another contract. But then again sprint will have to realize that people would probably not sign a contract if the off contract price is to low which brings me back to it being at least $549.

I would still get the 2 year contract even if it cost $300 retail. You pay the same amount month-to-month if you subsidize or not. Unless you think you're leaving Sprint here in the next 2 years, that would be my only concern.

Some people prefer not to be tied to one provider for 2 years. I can understand their position and if they have the $$$, why not avoid a contract.

I did this with Dish Network. I could have received a deep discount on the latest a greatest receivers when I was adding TVs around the house, but I really didn't want to be tied to them so I bought the equipment outright. Good thing because I ditched them for DirecTv who I am happier with right now. Plus I owned that equipment that I sold and put some $$$ in my pocket.

When it comes to Sprint, I don't mind the 2 year agreement. For one, with the discount I get with Sprint no other carrier can come close to the price I'm paying per month for the service I want. Two, the phone selection is good for me. Three, 10+ year customer = upgrade every year and that is a big plus since I'm a gadget person and like to try new stuff.

So Sprint would have to take a pretty big turn for the worse for me to want to bail out. Even if I did, I would be fine with the ETF since I have saved a lot of money with the upgrades over the past few years.

Actually, I think its even better than that... I don't think that Sprint will even charge you for the minutes/texts/data you use, so long as you dont exceed whats in your plan. If you're a new customer or an existing customer adding a line, you can pretty much walk away paying nothing if you cancel within 30days.

Sprint 30-day Return and Exchange Policy

As a new customer I have 30 days, if I buy a phone and am not satisfied and want to exchange for another phone, can I pay just the differences in price between the two phones and not have to pay any kind of fees?

BD, I added a line of service for my son in Dec. with the intent to keep it. I used it to get my fiance an Evo. I immediately activated it on her line and used an old BB to activate on his line. The only difference is I did not have any intent to cancel the line. With that said I did end up canceling the line after one billing cycle. I was able to do this without ETF because of special circumstances, but I was allowed to keep the Evo. And during the line cancel process there was not even a mention of the phone. Not your exact same scenario, but may shed some light.

Not sure why they would put that in caps if nobody else does mail in rebates either.

Because they can. It's a good marketing scheme since they don't know if Sprint will extend the instant rebates (set to end 6/23 if I remember correctly). It's like Kellog's selling cereal and putting "Now with FIBER!!!" on the box. It always had fiber, but seeing that plays on your desire for that feature.

Then why don't they write "IT GETS YOU DRUNK" on beer, then? :P

More clever might be: "You'll meet more attractive women!*"

But in all seriousness, this really appeals to the average consumer. Imagine someone who was just told they need to get fiber in their diet to stay healthy. They see on that Cheerios box "Now with fiber!" and they are going to buy it. RS knows that people don't like to do MIR, and since they don't know what sprint will do (but still have some basic understanding how they work), they'll just add "No MIR!!! We R so c00l!" to the end of the ad. It's not like it costs more to do so :)

"*At least you'll think you did"

Some stores don't follow that and charge a restocking fee. But other than that, yup.

where do i go if i want to preorder the 3vo online to get it the 21st? i cant find it anywhere on sprint web page lol.. desperate here.. :D

if you are a new customer... then you there will be no extra charges ... just pay the difference...because you have 30 day to cancel with no chargers (other than usage).

if you are an existing customer... you have a $35 restock to pay.

Do they charge you at the time of return or add it onto your account later on? I returned a phone last week and did not have to pay the restocking fee at the time I did the return. However, I assume the return is still processing as my upgrade still isn't showing on the line (5 days later...). This was all done at a corporate sprint store.

If you're a new customer (or existing customer and add a line), do you even have to pay for the usage?? The way I read it, you don't have to pay anything if you return within 30 days and do not exceed any plan limits (no charges at all... even for the minutes/texts/data you used).

Yes I got an EVO the other day and I was told about the new one coming out on the 24th and if I still wanted the EVO I would have to pay a 35 dollar restocking fee. I can't wait for the 3D to come out. But yeah brand new customers don't pay the restocking fee I was told.

Are you a current Sprint Premier customer? If you are you will be able to log into your account online on the 21st and order the Evo3D. You cannot do it online before that (although you can preorder online at Wirefly I think). No one will get the phone in their hands on the 21st, but possibly the 23rd depending on shipping.

I think they charge it to your account.
If you are lucky.. the manager can void the charge.

I read someone say... they charge you for the usage. it is not a fact that i know.

I do know that the restocking fee $35 for existing customers is fact. it can be voided.

If things are shipped on the 21st, chances are people will get them on the 22nd since overnight has been something we've seen a lot of times from Sprint.

That's what I was hoping and when I called Sprint yesterday he said no people should get them the same time as the stores are selling them but that you could possibly get it on the 23rd but it was doubtful. I don't know but I asked my store if they were allowed to let people who preordered come in a day ahead of time since online orders were being done early and he said no.

But someone mentioned returning a phone and 5 days later still not showing they were due for there upgrade. I just bought an EVO on my upgrade and am going to get the 3D on launch day so will they do an even exchange then at the store or do I need to return my EVO several days before to get my upgrade back? Or was that because of just returning only I am getting a new phone the same day I return? So I hope I'm good.
