Help 3G, 4G, and MMS Messaging wont work on my unlocked G2.....

If this issue has already been addresses I apologize for asking again, but i cant search and find the answers to my problems. I just purchased an unlocked, T Mobile G2 and cannot open MMS messages, and for some reason I can only run on 2G network.. I have carried an unlocked G1 for 2 years and had zero problems out of it. I wanted the G2 because it was supposed to be an improvemnt on the phone that has performed so well for me all these years.. I am not well versed on "tinkering" with phones thus I will either have to obtain some advice or sell the phone. I have installed the basic apps I had on my G1 APNDroid, Advanced Task Killer, usual stuff and cannot get past 2G and cant use mms messaging at all. I am running the phone on AT&T because where I live i dont really have an option on GSM phones.. Any help will be greatly appreciated....

Got the MMS problem fixed... now if someone could just tell me why i had to go from 3G on my G1 to 2G on this new phone i would appreciate it...

Is this a unlock through tmobile code? Or is this a direct unlock from htc ( with the actualy htc vision tag instead og tmobile tag)

I would suggest rooting the phone and changing radios to see if maybe u can run att 3g/4g ( probably not though)

I have been doing some reasearch.. and i think your right about the 3g and 4g.. It was unlocked when i got it off ebay.. shows android version 2.3.4 and build number of 2.15.531.3 and CL82286 as "release-keys" Im not real sure what all that means since im a welding instuctor and not a computer/phone person.. I didnt pay attention when i got the phone to notice that its a dual band phone instead of a quad band like my G1.. I cant see why T Mobile would restrict a newer model to 2 bands when the older one had 4.. I appreciate your help.. I live in the southern part of arkansas and coverage isnt that good here anyway so im prolly gonna be stuck with 2g no matter what i do.. I got it because i thought it would be faster but seems like i just have a necer phone with the same speeds.. I could pick up 3g down here with my G1 though..

hmm well the g2 is t-mo-s first "4g" phone and the 4g runs ono a different frequency than the 3g does. what i would do is put it back on ebay and then whatever you make off of that go to craigslist or ebay and grab you an ATT phone. that just seems like what would be an easier solution. att is having some nice android phone. if you really want the g2 then again i would root and try changing the radios around (there are tons of them available AND i can help you with the rooting process) and maybe something can happen.

I suer do hate to sell this phone... I carried my G1 for almost 2 years and its still operating perfectly.. I have been reading on xdadevelopers site and the bands just dont match up on this phone.. not for 3g or 4g or HSPA whichever it is... I really dont like AT&T but here its almost all we have.. Verizon has towers, but I have had my number for many years and dont plan to change it.. So i am stuck with AT&T as a carrier and since I like the phone, I may as well listen to the people that know how the inside of these phones work, and do my playing on my laptop.. I honestly dont know much about rooting a phone nor why its important.. I know just enough about working on phones to probably lock one up.. haha... I do appreiate you takin time to help with this, and I have looked and dont think the frequencies will ever pick up for me to obtain 4g and that would probably be the closest upper level frequency.. Seems like T Mobile tried to lock this phone into their network.. and they did a really good job of it...

well all carriers do that. however some carries (mostly CDMA) can move to other frequencies. rooting give the phone super user (no blocks at all its an open phone) and you can change roms and frequencies and alll kinds of things. for me ots really important and i have rooted since my G1 days. what i would do is run the g1 until you get the g2 carried over. and FWIW you can move to other companies (att>verizon) and still keep your number.

OK... i guess bottom line here is this.. If the G2 is rooted, has anyone ever achieved 4g/HSPA/HSPA+ speeds with this phone? Im scared I will brick this phone and lock it up as i am an AMETURE... I dont want to sound like anything other than the simplest kinda guy with a phone that prolly smarter than I know what to do with.haha... I have read, and cannot see where anyone has with any success achieved 4g/HSPA/HSPA+ SPEEDS with this phone on ATT network.. I am an HTC MAN all the way... I was buying HTC phones bback when nobody knew the company existed around here... So should I just keep my shiny new G2 Titanium and use it 2g and look around for another phone to buy in the future that may suit my speed needs? I know that sounds ridiculous.. but i really like this phone and i like the G line of phones.. So im gonna keep it, and just look around at other android phones.. I still have my G1 so if i need something to practice rooting on i can use that i suppose.. thank you for your help.. and I will probably be getting some advice on rooting the G1 just to learn the process...

im not tooo sure if anyone has but im not really sure anyone has attempted that also. what i would do is run back on the g1 for a moment, and then practice what u want to do on the g2 i can give u proper instructions on how to root ur phone and all that and u can try and do all taht stuff (once you root everything else is simple) i mean ask Android Forums - View Profile: hipster7929 who posted a thread about me on http://androidforums.com/t-mobile-g2/432558-mrguyandhis2.html and im sure he wll tell u that i will show u step by step what to do so u can do it all the time. at least the g1 can get you some faster speeds (datawise) and then u can work on the g2

looks like they have an att "4g" htc phone

not trying to push you away from the g2 just trying to help you out in the best ways taht i can
