Anyone have issues with the 3g/4g basically mobile network just turning itself off? Ive had it a lot lately. Usually a reboot fixes it. Seems like 3 or 4 times a day though.

during this time i can call, but no data or texts...weird that texts are affected

yeah, my 4G/3G has been pretty spotty. i have 3G now, but it drops constantly and i cant get data. usually it comes back within 10 seconds. but i am having even more issues...i am not even getting 4G at all any more.
verizon said it was a software glitch, so i have a new one coming in.

yea, i always notice i have no data at all and i'm in a 4g area. i don't get it. it will just drop, then maybe go to 1x, then it takes a while to go back to data...

it's still not reverting to 3g when 4g is not around?

Hi,

I was having the exact same problem with my TB and my wife has the LG Revolution and her's stays on 4G all the time. I took my phone back to Verizon today really considering on getting the Rev. but the sales person told me that it was no doubt an issue with the phone. It also failed to get a 4G connection in the Verizon store; so I swapped that phone out for another Thunderbolt (I really do like the TB but was just pissed at the 4G issue) and now it seems to be working fine and holding the 4G connection. I still notice that it toggles between 3G and 4G depending what I'm doing but that's ok. It's staying on 4G much, much longer now and I'm able to stay connected to my computer via the TB mobile hotspot....:)

He also told me that the issue on my first TB was that the updated software version did not update or download properly. The build/software number update should is: 1.13.605.7. which is already has on my newer TB.

Hopefully when the Gingerbread update comes out this week for us TB users I pray that it addresses the connectivity issues as well.

I've been having the same problem. One day a reboot wouldn't even work, so I called Verizon, and he did some "backdoor" fix. It worked. . . .for about 2 days. Now it wtill turns off, and I have to reboot to get it back on. Sometimes the LTE on/off app fixes it too.

Man, alright guess I am going to have to go up there. Another thing that points to this problem is my texts. I will send a text and it will say no signal and I hit retry and it keeps doing it then says General SMS error...it's just odd. Looks like my first update didn't take correctly because when I go into Software Update, then Status there is nothing there.

It says:
Source: Verizon Wireless
Name:
Status:
Code:
Date:
Time:
Description

But there are no versions or numbers or anything...I really don't want a refurb...guess I have no choice. And I will try to make them give me a new screen protector too...if only this phone WORKED how great it would be.

Mattbirk: go into settings/about phone/software information. There it will tell you your software build. You went to the status under software update.

I have been having the same issues. I am hoping the update that is due tomorrow will fix this beast. My software build is the same as the OP so I don't know what the issue is.

Gotcha, thanks. I do have the correct version: 1.13.605.7

We will wait and see...

I have to tether my laptop to my TBolt at work to connect to the internet and I have always had a fairly solid connection until this last week. About a week ago, I started dropping 4G constantly. Restarting the phone only helps for about 5 minutes. I use the LTE on/off app, but it didn't seem to want to switch from one to the other. I hope this new update fixes the problem, but I'd like to know why I just recently started.having the problem.

I have to imagine there is some network issue. I had my TB replace with a NEW phone after getting 2 crappy refurbs. Everything was great until about a week ago and then I started noticing the network dropping. I was just planning on patiently waiting for the GB update (and a few guinea pigs to try it out) and hope everything is magically cured. I did a factory reset since I hadn't finished customizing after the replacement and that did not help either.

I also tried the pull battery trick and remove the sim card. Those did not help either.

I have the same issue as well. I am using Green Power Free to help conserve battery and it mainly uses WiFi when I'm in the house, and it does the same thing with WiFi also. I have to reboot to get it all going again. So I turned off Green Power and the dropping of signal still happened, so I knew it wasn't the Green Power app causing the problem. Then I turned off WiFi all together, and it still happened.

It usually happens about 3-4 times a day for me. I have rooted as well and it was happening before I rooted as well.

Weird stuff.

+1 for the "backdoor" fix here. Took my wife's to the Verizon store today. The first rep tried everything I had already tried. I told them that I would not accept them doing a factory reset. First rep passed it to a second rep when I would not allow the factory reset, and 30 minutes later they reappeared with the working TB. When I asked what they did I was told they had to adjust some "settings" that I could not access.

I had the same problem and had called to see if there was a known outage in Atlanta a few weeks back.

The tech that I spoke to asked me to power off the phone, pull the battery and SIM card for about 30 seconds and then re-install them.

I've stayed locked in 4G ever since. Maybe that will help for some of you. :)

Thanks for the tip. I'll try your tip next time to see if it helps. I think they must have been updating the network because I went to my Verizon store and two reps said they had the same problem and were a little aggravated also, but they said that usually meant they were doing some updating. I was tethered to it again last night and the 4G never dropped out.

I appreciate them doing frequent updates to their service, but I wish they could do it without disrupting the service.

well just an update, i was having those same issues, and sometimes i would just have no data at all. constant 3G in a known 4G area, buddy getting 4G sitting 10 feet away from me.

tried a new SIM card, and still nothing.
got a new phone, and EVERYTHING IS WORKING AGAIN!
so it seems the phone was the issue and nothing else. just something to think about.

So I've never had data issues unless there was a known outage. Today, I can't get data service as others have already mentioned above - no matter what I try.

How can it just stop working???

bad sim card
bad battery cover (gold contacts on back are part of the antenne)
bad phone
outage in your area.

I had the same problem...would just drop 3G to a very poor 1X...called Verizon rep., did a system reset, much as I didn't want to. So far, signal is staying up, and, have to admit, the reset wasn't as much as a PIA as I thought it would be...only lost 1 App that I can see right now. I'll keep my fingers crossed...I frankly think this was a punt by the rep, but, you never know.

I've had the same issue since about March. When I'm in a spotty area, 4G drops completely and I have to reboot to get even 3G to start working again. Sadly, this phone is driving my patience worse than my Windows based HTC. I'm not sure who is to blame at this point, Verizon with their spotty 4G or HTC with their shoddy build of this phone.

1. What would cause this? Never had an issue until today
2. I don't take off my cover - so no, the connections didn't just up and stop working
3. No real problems at all then all of a sudden it's a bad phone? Is this a mission impossible phone?
4. I'm in NYC... no outage and do you really think there is poor signal here?

After a few hours, it's back up and connected now... the only thing I can point my finger at are either 1. I turned 4G back on 2 days ago... or 2. I started using Launcherpro as my default 2 days ago as well. When I stay on CDMA auto prl everything is fine, and now I'm back to using Sense.
