Root 3G Backup instructions: Read this BEFORE flashing ICS or Jellybean ROMs!!

People toss the word BRICK around too easily, a brick is a phone that does not even power on. It is a paper weight, and totally useless.

This is not now, and likely not going to be a description of your phone.

Unless of course, you lose your temper, and toss that sucker in a blender.... Aside from that, or something similar, you're going to be okay.

:D

I get the same thing: Your IMEI number is:

This was a refurb phone. Ok, assuming I have bricked phone, I am still in my 15 day return period to ATT. I know I voided warranty when I moddded, but can I get the phone back to a state where they can't easily see I moidded it so I can return it?

I am sure they can reflash and fix it at ATT and sell as a refurb again.

OK, I am still open to trying to fix it if you think there is hope and can help me...

You can use your backup to restore stock ROM, but I don't know of a way to remove the ClockworkMod Recovery. (Don't forget to flash the GB Baseband)

Once they saw that, assuming they looked, they would know you modded your phone.

You seem quite intelligent, so I will totally assume you did follow the guide perfectly, this only allows me to think of one reason your IMEI is not showing.... It is because when you did the backup, it was not there to back up in the first place.

It is the only reasonable answer, they shipped you a phone that did not have the IMEI setup properly. If it was, it would have backed it up, like it has for so many others.

I really did follow it closely. Problem is, I know it had a good IMEI at one time as I made calls on it before I worked on it.

As near as I can tell, I only have WIFI on the device. When I go to select network, it says cannot connect to network right now.

Is there any way to tell if the IMEI is in the backup file?

I am patient and I am willing to try anything. However, don't hesitate to let me know once you think it is a lost cause.

Okay, when you go to settings, about phone, then see baseband version, what does it say?

If it says Unknown, this is good.

No to the backup, its not ROM related.

I am recalling all this from memory, because at the moment I do not have a Fusion 2, so if a menu isn't exactly where I say it is, it's very close. ;)

It says UNKNOWN

SWEET!!! You just forgot to flash the ICS Baseband.

All you have to do is flash the ICS Baseband. I have done it before all by itself, but if you want to be extra careful, just do a clean install via this guide, and start anew.

Everything will be fixed. Promise :D

Make sure to do the baseband bit this go.

Once the ICS baseband is flashed, you don't have to do it ever again for any of the ICS or Jellybean ROMS, you will only need to flash a baseband if you need to go back to a gingerbread ROM. If you do want to go back, you will just have to flash the GB Baseband.

I know this all to well, because I once wasted an ENTIRE day troubleshooting my phone; I tried EVERYTHING to fix it and for the life of me, could not figure it out.

At my wits end, I checked the about phone, and saw unknown.

I was happy and totally pissed at the same time. Flashed the ICS baseband, and all was fixed. Just like that.

BINGO!! That did it.

This is great little phone, especially for a $40 gophone without a contract. I just need it to get me to where I qualify for upgrade at the end of this month.

If you know anyone looking for one, tell them ATT has them on sale as Refurb for $40.

Heck, I bet a guy like you could buy them, flash them to Jelly Bean and double your $$ on ebay. I see where they have sold a lot lately for around $79.

Thank you so much for your help!

I'm glad you got it going, and am very happy you didn't give up.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

:D

Sent a donation to your Coffee fund. You might even be able to get lunch at Mcdonalds as long as you do not supersize it. LOL

I notice you are in Florida, I am just up the Road in Birmingham.

War Eagle!

That's really nice of you, thank you. I truly appreciate it.

I have been to Birmingham a few times; the people were really nice. I stayed the night once on my way to New Orleans from Indianapolis; my brother and I spent a few months in LA to help out after the storm and stopped in Birmingham for the evening.

What is War Eagle?

I'm not from Florida, but California, I have only lived here a couple years.

War Eagle is the greatest tradition in all of College Football.

Auburn vs. Texas A&M Eagle Flight 2012 - YouTube

It is the battle Cry of for the Tigers of Auburn University. It is the Opposite of Roll Tide. LOL. In Florida you probably hear more "go gators. Out West the equivalent might be USC's "Fight On" or the University of California- Berkeley's "Go Bears!" (just don't tell anyone in the South that I said anything football related in the PAC-10 was equivalent to the SEC, where things are always better).

Sorry, everyone in Alabama just assumes everyone else in the south has some great college football alliance.

OK, since you have educated me in Flashing ROM's, here are a few more to get you up to speed on your College Football:

Austin Peay State University: Peay, Peay, Lets Go Peay!!!!!!!!!
California State U. - Long Beach: Go Beach!
Furman University: Go F. U.! (Yes you say each letter separately.)
Louisiana State University: Geaux Tigers!
Marshall University: We Are Marshall!
Massachusetts Institute of Technology: e to the x, dy/dx, e to the x dx. Cosine, secant, tanget, sine, three point one four one five nine.
Palm Beach Atlantic University: You wish you were a fish!
Texas A&M University: Dig Em! Or Gig Em!
University of Arkansas: Suuuueeeyyy Piggy!
University of California- Berkeley: Go Bears!
University of Georgia: Go Dawgs!
University of Maryland: Give em shell!
University of Oklahoma: Boomer Sooner!
University of Southern California: Fight On!
University of Tennessee: Rocky Top or Go Vols!
University of Texas: Hook 'em, Horns!

Yeah, I am probably going to get banned for getting off topic, but since you answered all my questions, I thought it only fair that I answer yours.

WAR EAGLE!

Ha, I doubt they will ban you for much on this site, they are pretty cool.

Thanks for taking the time to give me the gift of knowledge!

Figures MIT's would be math related. hahaha.

:D

I am trying to backup 3G before I install JB. However it is not letting me add any files on the root of my SD card because it is saying there is no space available at all. And I have no clue how to fix the situation.

Followed all the steps in the guide and flashed new ROM.

I have the IMEI files I backed up saved on my computer and in the root of the SD card.

I use the toolbox APP to restore IMEI. It says it is successful and to reboot using *#06#. I am not sure how to "reboot using #*#06#". That may be the problem.

However, when I do #*06# it says the letters IMEI only, no number follows it. Any and all help appreciated.

I backed up phone as per the guides, can I go back and restore that and get everything back?

* just a quick up-date and a question.....

I used the guide and messed up the order some and did install (Slim Bean 4.1.2 - Now with overclocking!!! ) and realized the next day I only had 2G.
So, realizing I didn't re-Install my back-up of my 3G was why I only had 2G I Installed my back up and got the same ( use #*06 something, which I IGNORED ) and re-booted and !!!! Yes, back on 3G.. Which is working great.

+ Question is ?
Baseband >? How do you know if you have the right or wrong one ?

1. yes, there is your original from the Gingerbread you are over writing ( Mine was 2.3.6 from AT&T ) and yes I understand you have to have it to put Gingerbread back on, but what is the meaning If you need it ?
How would you know ?

2. My bluetooth headset quit working and all the sound comes out of the phone. Is Baseband responsible for this or is it the Jellybean ? Some systems are hardware dependent. My LG HBS700 works great on my Sprint HTC EVO 3D with Android 4.0.3 Software version> 2.89.651.2 710RD.

Love the site !!

If you can make calls, you're on the correct baseband. The place on your phone that shows the baseband is in settings, about phone, baseband version; if it says numbers, you're on the correct baseband, if not it will say unknown.

I never used a Bluetooth headset on any of the roms, so I cannot answer that question. I do know that Bluetooth works because I was able to connect my keyboard and mouse both via Bluetooth on slim bean 4.1.2.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about having to put gingerbread back on, you don't have to do that; you have to put the gingerbread baseband on only if you want a gingerbread rom.

Yes, I understand that you have to put the Gingerbread baseband back on Gingerbread rom if you go back to it. Factory reset in example ? or does it do it automatically ?

How do you know if you need to change your Baseband before you install the New Rom ? Slim 4.1.2 ....... for example...

It does not do it automatically, a factory reset will simply restore whatever rom you've installed back to its original settings. (not the stock rom)

Ice cream sandwich and jellybean roms require the ics baseband, and when switching between any rom that is 4.0 or above, you don't have to keep flashing the ics baseband.

If you decide to install stock, or cm 7.2 you will have to put the gb baseband on.
