I just recently switched phones with my girlfriend, gave her my Shine plus and took her Desire that I got her for her birthday. She has used it for a couple months now, but when she complained that she still didn't like onscreen typing as much as the keyboard on her old phone, I jumped at the oppurtunity to trade phones with her. I couldn't afford the Desire when I got my Shine plus cause I had to pay almost full price instead of 3yr contract price.
I tether a lot because it's the only form of internet I have at home. With the Shine plus I was rooted, 2.1 with the only custom rom that was available for that phone. Tethering worked perfectly for hours on end, without it ever cutting out.
The Desire is completely stock 2.2, using the stock wifi hotspot app. It likes drop the 3g connection from time to time, when it's not downloading much. It seems to be happening when the phone is not plugged in and I have the screen turned off. Turning the screen back on seems to bring the connection back almost immediately but you can see that its not on right after you unlock the screen.
The same thing is happening to my friends Desire and he is using USB tethering to his desktop pc with PDAnet app. His problem is happening with the screen on though, he leaves it on since it's charging from the usb while he tethers.
Mine I only unplug once it's at 100% battery cause I don't like to leave it at high state of charge constantly.
Any idea why this is happening or how to fix it? The other thing I notice is that this phone doesn't get hot, or burn the battery up as fast while tethering as the Shine plus did, even though the Shine was rock solid reliable while tethering.
I don't plan on rooting this phone until after I get the 2.3 OTA from Telus since that will likely be the last update.
Thanks guys.
