Help 3G doesn't work

So I have been using 3g, as opposed to 4g, when I am just idling my phone or just not around a charger, just so that I can still receive my emails and updates. I've been using the *#*#4636#*#* trick. The only problem now is that when I try to connect using that method now, 3g doesn't even connect anymore. Anyone know the problem? 4g works fine when I go back to the original settings.

So you are going to tell me you do a "trick" to your phone so you can receive emails/updates? Whats so important that you cannot update an app when you are around a charger? Do you work for a company that requires you to constantly check your email?

4g requires significantly more battery than 3g. I want to be able to sync data when I am not around a charger. So there is a method that allows you to use 3g rather than 4g. Ive been using it for about a week now. But today it doesn't seem to connect to the 3g network. That's my problem. I just want to be able to use my battery
to its utmost efficiencyand make our last the day like I have been

I am in a 3G only area, my 3G dissapears in my notification bar completely sometimes and I have no data access. I am in a saturated 3G area, I am not on the fringe.

Is this what is happening to you? I can not figure it out?

i was having a very similar problem and i brought my phone into the verizon store to get it checked out, and they helped a lot and explained what was going on.

the SIM cards in these new phones are 4G SIM cards, and unlike the older 3G cards, they're supposed to be able to connect to the network by themselves as soon as they're put into our phones.. older 3G SIM cards required data to be entered so they could be manually programmed for each phone.

because this technology is so new, problems are occurring, but as i learned, it has an easy fix. just do a battery pull, and once the battery is out, pull the sim card tray out, doing a similar SIM card pull as well. i was told you usually only need to do it once before the Thunderbolts begin to work properly. ive only done it once and mine's working like a charm.. i hope this helps!

Two days of not being able to connect to 3g.. And the problem was as simple as taking the sim card out and putting it back in. haha go figure. Thanks

I am having this issue also.
I am in an area where 3G is not strong, but it's there. And I'm showing like 4 bars, but no 3G or 4G symbol, not even a 1X signal. So I don't know what I have 4 bars of, but I guess it's something.

But when I try to open up the browser or market, it says it can't connect.
And I am standing in a place where I always had at least 2 bars of 3G with my Eris.

What gives?

Didn't try the sim card pull. Will revert my device back to eHPRD and try the pull. Thanks! If it doesn't work, I'll go back to the method in my post.

I had replied before I read the thing about the sim card pull.

I tried it (really doubtful that it would work), and to my AMAZEMENT, it worked!!!!!!
Woohoo!!!!!!!

I have 3G now, and the TB picks it up stronger than my Eris did. Sweet!

The stores now have a fix for this issue take it in. Its a programming change.

Yes, all they do is change modem settings to RevA so 3G simultaneous voice and data (without 4G) won't work. They don't want regular users doing the ##778# thing and really messing something up.

SIM card pull did not work for me. Still have no 3G data connectivity. Switched modem settings back to RevA, 3G is back, albeit without simultaneous voice and data. I can live with that until the bugs are killed.

How would a sim card pull actually do anything, since the battery is not installed while pulling the sim?

As I stated in a previous post http://androidforums.com/htc-thunde...one-info-app-cause-verizon-put-blocks-3g.html

I went to Verizon after I could only choose 4G or 1X - 3G wouldn't connect anymore...I was told Verizon put blocks on my 3G, so I would use "Phone Info" or dialing that code in with some worry that it is going to ruin your 3G. They had to submit a ticket to customer service corporate from the official verizon store in chicago to lift the blocks on my account. FYI proceed with caution manually switching between 4G/3G.

This also happened to me. The BB sales rep did a battery pull and did the sim card pull too. It worked like a champ! Who knew? Thanks for sharing!

Question... Does this erase anything that I will need to reprogram after the pull is done? (doesn't really matter, just want to know what I need to redo) Will I need to do the *#*#4636#*#* again as well? Thanks!

I know. Which is why I couldn't believe it worked. It doesn't make sense to me either.

I just know that prior to doing it I had not seen the "3G" symbol ever on my phone. And right after I booted back up after pulling the sim, it was there.

However, I pulled the battery once since then without pulling the sim, and rebooted, and it lost the 3G, and not only that but said my Sim was locked out or something. I did a sim pull again, and it went back to working again.

I just left my local Verizon store a minute ago ( I was in there about random shutdowns on my phone) and they said that is a known issue, they are working on.

The worst part is people are going to start returning their phones because of this. I would guess a low percentage of those people go to these forums looking for answers. It's a shame really, because this phone has some serious capabilities and that's what people expect. Battery life is always going to be an issue on high powered smartphones, but this 3G connectivity could really spell bad news for the TB image in the general public's eyes.
