Help 3g HSDPA switching

spacepods

Lurker
Not sure if this is the same issue as

http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/72880-3g-hsdpa.html

but thought I would post here....

I seem to have problems with 3G/HSDPA switching on my HTC Hero.

If I am trying to browse using any browser (Opera mini, Dolphin, default browser) I seem to get problems when on 3G. The up arrow for transmit is on but never receive anything. If it switches to HSPA everything continues without a problem.
Sometimes it doesn't switch to HSPA and fails (no connection) and very rarely it will be OK on 3G. This is very hit and miss.

Because I use this at home most of the time, and it does switch between 3G and HSPA when at home, this leads me to believe that the problem is with the switching between the two. I haven't found anywhere where I cannot get HSPA so that I can try just the 3G.

Anybody else seen this?

Another question on this.... will it always display 3G until I try to use the data connection then display HSPA?

I have also seen problems with the Facebook widget/app not being able to post. When H is displayed it is very reliable, only when 3G is displayed.

I am on Orange and they have told me it is not the phone.

I have performed a factory reset to no avail. On Orange UK.

Moved your post to the Hero forum (GSM). You had posted it in the SPRINT Hero section (CDMA). You should get the help you need there. :)

Hello mr.
Im having the exact same issue with you but with my Spica and im in south america. So I doubt its model related. More than likely ROM related.

Have you changed/updated your version of android recently?
Have you tried any navigation on it?

Just got back on here so just seen your response Pipe.
I have had these issues really since I have had the phone. I am on Orange (UK) and I updated the phone last August I think to 2.1 (not a custom ROM), so I doubt it is that.
I think I may have to contact them again because it is now getting so annoying.
Strangely it is working OK on 3G now as I am typing this.
The reason I think it is to do with switching between 3G and HSPA is because, as I have mentioned, when I do see issues with nothing happening on 3G, the H icon appears and it flies along.
Another call to Orange I think.
