3G in Thailand

I live in Thailand and they are trialling 3G right now and Im wondering if my HTC Desire will work with it, a bloke down the pub told me that somewhere in my phone settings I should have the option of doing a manual network search, that I don't need an appripriate SIM just to do the network search. If I can't see True's 3G signal then Im not in the coverage area.

Its on 850 MHz whatever that means

How do i do my search guys?

I should have perhaps asked, can you add or do something (some app or fitting) for the phone to accept 850 MHz

Try Settings> Wireless & Networks> Mobile Networks> Network Operators and then search within there. When I search it brings up all the national operators so think it could be what you are looking for.

Let me know how you get on as I come to Thailand a fair bit so would be good to know :)

I just did a search manually (I'm on AIS) and only True came up - not True 3G; of course I could be in a non-signal area - 10km from the airport in Hua Mak. :O

3G not available on HTC phones in Thailand as True move offer (network supplier) it on 850 MHz which the Desire cant pick up :(

Hello,

Can you confirm that HTC Desire S doesn't work with AIS 12call in Thailand ? Because Ais is working on 900 and the Desire S phone only works on 850 ?

Thank for info.
