Has anyone figured out a way to use the Fascinate as a wi-fi server for laptops without incurring Verizon's $20 a month charge?

What about tethering? A friend has a Incredible with Verizon and you can use an app (forget the name) that allows the phone to act basically as gateway to the network when connected to a computer via USB - no extra charge. With the Verizon mobile app you can use access via WiFi from multiple computers. If you only need one, then tethering should work.

pdanet or easy tether allow non root wired tether (both are $ in the market) and AndroidTethering ($ in market) supposedly allows wireless tether without root, although i dont know anyone who has every used it.

cheaper to root and use barnacle wifi legacy tether ;)

Hmm, a wired connection should suit my purposes...I only want to use a single laptop with it.

But do we know for sure that Verizon wouldn't add their $20 a month charge for this method too?

they wont, unless you call them up and tell them you are tethering ;)
