3g not working on my android phone

tadael

Newbie
i have an lg optimus l5 (e617g) and 3g does not work. But 2g does. i tried my sim card on another phone and 3g works just fine. I went to my carrier and there wasn't anything that they could do for me. i tried changing my sim card and still 3g doesn't work. i even performed a factory reset and still no luck. I do know that my phone supports the right type of 3g as that of my carrier's. i just don't know why its not working...
can someone please help me.

Hi tadael, is the setting for 3g enabled? Welcome to Android Forums, we have several LG Optimus forums but not one for that specific device. I would have a look through some of them and see if someone else has posted a similar problem.

yes, when i switch the network mode to wcdma the network bar empties and an x appears next to it
Maybe your just in a bad location try finding a place in your house with the biggest window, point it near that and see what happens. Or better yet walk outside and see. It all has to do with location

Do you have any Custom Roms installed?

Also what Carrier is it? I know you mention a SIM card so its not a CDMA network. Some networks just do not penetrate walls well. I think it was to the with the frequency or wavelength. I believe the higher it is the worst wall penetration is.

You say you tried another phone and it worked. Was it the same model as the one you are having problems with. Another thing that could be messing with it could be a 3rd party app. I do remember i had an app that switches off 3g the save battery.

If such is the case, then it's obvious that you might have a defective device. I'm surprised that your carrier didn't replaced the device after seeing what is happening.

Usually a reset more are likely would have fixed the problem, at this time I'm not sure if there's anything else that can be done except to replace the device.

I hope things will work out in your favor.
Good luck. :)

P.s. Welcome aboard.

yeah, that's what i thought too. My carrier can't replace it for me cause i bought it sim free with no warranty.
Well, thanks anyway :)

I'm pretty sure i'm in a good location, i always get full network bars when on a 2g network. No, the phone i tried my sim card on is not the same as the one i'm having problems with. I have a friend who has an android phone and i asked him if he was facing any problems with 3g like i am, but he told be that 3g works perfectly.
I doubt any application is causing this problem, since i've done a factory reset no 3rd party apps are installed.
I've never installed a custom rom onto my device, partly cause there isn't a way yet to unlock the bootloader, whatever that means.
Guess my phone is defective.
