3g on metro (for real)

At work today I looked at my phone and all of a sudden had a 3g symbol at the top. MUCH faster internet and I was able to stream Pandora all day. This was in orlando, but when I got home to clermont, I was back to 1x. Somehow I was able to stream music still the way down the turnpike but lost 3g somewhere along the way. Is there a way to update and keep 3g, especially for my fiance who doesn't go to orlando everyday?! We both have the Optimus M from metro. I was so excited to Isee that 3g symbol today...
 
alabamaginger, maybe you have a spotty 3G reception? when you're at work again (tomorrow?), check if you have 3G again. Maybe the signal is not strong enough to reach your home.
Also, check your PRL under Settings->About Phone->Phone Status, and check if you have the latest version (3020) installed.
 
I dont have 3g....yet but someone I know about 40 miles away or so does. He dialed *228 and picked option 2 which updates your roaming list (No you dont actually roam) and his prl changed from 3019 to 3020 and his signal changed from 1xRTT to the EVDO and has had 3g ever since. I call that number just about everyday but mine never changes.
 
Are you sure he chose 2 and not 5? Roaming list update should be option 5. And then press 1 to confirm. However, you're right in thinking this won't update your prl. You need to do it manually.

At Big Co Jones: updating for me was very easy, and I do have 3G now. Seeing as Miami was Metropcs' entry point in Florida, i expect you should get it too. I say try out. What's the worse that could happen? :)

Is he able to get 4g again?
Or does it stay in 3g?
i would love to know because i just called and did all of that and well it updated my phone but i dont know if i would be getting 4g too? Can you help Thanks.

SORRY I SEE THE 4G BUT I DONT KNOW IF I HAVE THE 3G...
 
Updating gives you 1x, 3g and 4g.
4g falls back to 3g, and 3g to 1x. This way, you always get the fastest available connection.
I have all three on my Indulge, and I barely see 3g cause 4g is so strong near me. Lol. I see 3g at work, in a building where I usually don't even get 1x! So it's even better for me now.

Than I should have all of them the three of them? sounds good to me i was kinda worry i would mess up my phone, lol.
 
You're welcome! And don't you worry about it messing anything. I actually have no idea why metro hasn't just sent this update to all users in the first place. Maybe they're worried about the fact that not all markets have 3G yet, although it still doesn't make sense, as the new PRL only adds functionality, not take away existing ones...
Well, it's metro, after all. Trying to understand most of their moves is obviously not in the realm of life's possibilities...

It's okay to make a new thread for stuff that's not there...
It catches users attentions that are interested, and help keep things organized. ;)

I don't use Metro's EasyWifi app though, and would never even consider using it... So I can't give you any feedback or know what's cool about the update... :(
 
They are being so weird about the areas that seem to be getting this. Soooo weird.

For instance, if this whole deal is to relieve congestion, why set up the outlying suburbs first? Why not the major congested cities?
 
No luck in West Palm Beach either. Just manually updated a rooted Eris to 3020.prl and it is still saying 1x. That stinks.....
