Help 3g only toggle

Hi folks. Happy to be a new lg g4 customer. First lg phone ive owned and happy to say the best phone ive had, however my only small gripe there is no option to select "3g only" as ive been used to with my samsung s5.

Reason being the edge is slightly better reception than 3g and so flits between the 2 whilst im at work. 3g speed is fine which is why im happy with. Is there a reason for this ommition and is therea way round it bar rooting the phone.

Ive tried selection this option via the networks settings and via some app on play store to no avail.

Any replys more tha appreciated. :-)

Love the logo in the bottom right of your avatar! :D

Unless I've been running a custom ROM, since about Android 2.3, no Android device I've ever owned has had the ability to switch between network modes via a quick toggle.

Edit - I've just re read your post and you mean even from within the network settings menu there's no option to change to 3G only, just 2G/3G?

No, it was clear, I was just misreading.

On most phones I've had, there have been codes you can enter in the dialer which allow you to access additional settings etc (stuff you're not normally supposed to play about with). There's normally an option there to change network mode to 3G only.

Let me have a dig about and see what I can find for the G4.

Well. It's not on Play any longer. That stinks.
It is by Cunning Logic and on Github. Hmmm.

Edit: it was hit or miss with what phones it worked on.

No need for dialer codes.

Check out "Network"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mangelow.network

What's not in the Preferred Network Type isn't possible for the phone.

Lollipop removes widget access to cell radios, some phones removed it before that.

AT&T and Verizon has had a history of not allowing you to turn off 4G on some previous models - and there wasn't a root fix for those.

This is the screen i get after installing network. Looks like ill just have to make do just now. Mayby a future update may resolve. May try my luck with an email direct to lg. Will post any info. Thanks for the help guys.

Success!!!!! After having a look at the link I supplied about unlocking 3g bands. Eventually stumbled across the answer. In a nut shell for anyone in future.

1. Dial 277634#*# into dial pad
2. Field test
3. Modem settings
4. Then you are presented with the options in screen shot:
