Help 3G vs wifi

I was told that 3G consume more energy than wifi; so I should use wifi whenever it's available. Is that true?

Now, when the phone is idle (and both 3G & wifi are on), which one will it use? It seems 3G to me... b/c when I wake it from sleep, it seems to look for wifi again...

So, does that mean I should turn wifi off during idle?

Just trying to find a way to juice more out of the X!! Thanks.

Yes, use wifi, when available. In additional in the wifi settings screen, hit menu, then advanced settings and set sleep policy to never sleep. That way wifi will stay connected always.

3G will remain off when the phone is awake or sleeping this way.

Lastly, there's an app called Y5-Battery Saver. What that will do is sense when you have a "remembered" wifi connection near you and will automatically turn wifi on for you and then your phone will connect. Once you are out of range, Y5, will turn wifi back off for you. Pretty slick.
