Ok I have seen in posts people talking about turnin off wifi and 3G to save battery life. How do you turn off 3G? I have a LG optimus s. thanks

I dont have that option. I have 3 choices, data enabled ,data roaming, and data roam gaurd

Hmmm, you might want to ask in the Optimus S forum, those guys would know the menu better.
On a cdma android phone you can only turn off sync... there's one radio in the phone and it's either in 1x or 3g (EVDO) mode. Forcing the phone to 1X mode doesn't save battery because the radio is still running at the same frequencies in 1x and 3G mode.
However, turning off data sync stops android apps from being able to use the radio for data services. Which does help battery life a lot. You can automate turning on/off data sync using juice defender or green power.
